I live in CA, and I’m a rising senior. I’m interested in applying to the College of Arts and Sciences here are the stats:

ACT: 31

AP’s: Span- 5 Eng- 4 US History- 3

GPA:3.38 W

ECs listed on app: football, track, was in 2 clubs, and work. and a lot of comm. service too

Job/Work Experience: did finances that were really receipts at a family friend’s company and also had a job there too

Essays (subject and responses): already started so they should be very good- on two hardships that have come down on me the last 2 years, and my dealing w/ them.

Teacher Recs: better than great

Counselor Rec: great

School Type: Private, does not rank

Ethnicity: Hispanic (AA?)

Gender:M

Also: Took 3 summer courses at a local comm. college

okay, I'm a moron and overlooked that you posted the GPA. I think you'd have a decent shot if you could up the GPA. Everything else looks really great though... does your school rank?

Dear GSW Fan : First, you really need to consider if you want to travel across country (given the hardships you mentioned) to spend 30+ weeks per year at college. While this might sound like a silly question now, if you have a substantial support network in California, you need to reflect on how you will handle situations from 2500 miles away. Second, why were you taking courses at a community college as a high school student? The answer to this question is probably more interesting than the courses themselves as you will rarely see that on a High School junior's profile?

As for the numbers, your ACT 31 is around the midpoint of BC's accepted class but the 3.38 GPA is out of line. Without more visibility into your course work, this means that you are a B+ student at a university that seeks top 10% students ("A" Students). This will be a big hill to climb in your application profile.

Unfortunately, this review is based on four or five sentences of data that you have offered - hopefully, you will be able to post more information supporting your case for admission. Good luck!
