Chances (For the last time I swear!!!)

Ok, I just wanted to know my chances going into my senior year with my finalized college list. PLease do that whole thing where someone tells me which ones are reaches, mathes etc... Thanks!!!

EC's: Chorus everything from all-state to honor choir to Governor's Honors Program for voice, I'm one of the top Bass/Baritone's in the state and probably the best of second best Bass II, Student Council VP (11th), hopefully president this year, President of Mu Alpha Theta (10th-12th, 12th), VP of NHS (11th-12th, 12th), Scholar's Bowl (9th-10th, 12th), Mock Trial (11th-12th, founding member), Tri-M music honors society (11th-12th, founding member)...and some other stuff like Odyssey of the Mind and Debate that I don't really care about...Also, I do community service at my church and at the local co-op ministry

My schools in order are: Brown, Cornell, Yale, Emory, GWU, BU and Washington and Lee ....no real safeties because I got into oglethorpe over the summer with scholarship...

I'm gonna major in IR and Poly-Sci but if I go to cornell I'll do policy analysis in the school of Human Ecology

I think you can look forward to a lot of fat envelopes in April!

wow really...my conselor told me that three ivy's was completely unrealistic so now I'm freakin out

guidance counselors are useless. you have a very good chance of getting into all those schools

Be happy you have a guidance counselor that actually knows anything about universities and not just about placements at a timber mill and a local polytech.

Great shot at all your schools. You might get into all of them. You would've have had a decent shot even if you weren't URM, but since you are -- well, it looks pretty good for you.

3 Ivies is def. not too much. Think about it this way: what if you only would have gotten into say Brown (& rejected from Cornell & Yale), but you only applied to Cornell or Yale...it's good to have lots of schools on your list.

bump......

You have a good chance at most of them. I'm an A-A male w/ 1320 sat (old) and I got into Amherst and Duke, rejected at Harvard, and ironically got deferred at Tulane. I would have applied to more places but couldn't afford to.

wow....what was tulane's problem?? Which school did you choose?

how on earth do you get accepted to duke and amherst and deferred from tulane? (no offense to any tulane students out there)

any other opinions????!

good chances at all schools, i think (dont take my word for it, ive posted chances threads all over cc)

You are very solid on everything except Yale. Brown could go 50-50. My only advice is to add a couple more top schools like Northwestern, Dartmouth, and Duke which are pretty similar to those on your list to hedge your bets.

well I'm applying SCEA to Yale but Brown is my first choice... do you think that cornell should be a match. I'm applying to the college of Human Ecology and I'm legacy?

My sister got into Wellesley and Brown but rejected from Spelman and Northeastern! I'd say your shots are good at all of them, and m1r2k3, African American male with 1330 (old), think it's still possible?

wow.....ya'll (I'm from GA!) are being really stingy with the responses these days!!

Brown- Rejected
Cornell- Waitlisted
Yale-Rejected
Emory- Accepted
GWU- Accepted
BU- Accepted
Washington and Lee - Accepted

wow...ok...now I feel like I'm aiming way too high...you really think I'll get completely rejected from Yale SCEA??...not even deffered?

You're definitely not aiming too high. You have fantastic chances everywhere. In fact, I would throw in a couple more reaches. You have a high GPA, a 1450 SAT, and the mere fact that your an URM catapults your chances. Yale will be difficult; it's difficult for everyone since its admissions process is so random. However, I think you're severely underestimating your chances.

Brown- Waitlisted/Accepted
Cornell- Accepted
Yale- Indefinite Chances (Unable to be Predicted)
Emory- Accepted
GWU- Accepted
BU- Accepted
Washington and Lee - Accepted

Fut, as I said before, the fact that there is a lack of an URM presence in the top colleges makes top URM's like yourself more appealing. I've noticed many URM's have much easier chances getting into top colleges than non-URM's. A friend of mine who is also an URM was accepted into Cornell this year with 1140 SAT and a 3.8. I thought she would be rejected for sure but it's obvious how much of a pulling factor an URM status can be.

It's obvious which ones are matches and safeties, so I'll skip that part.

I think you'll get into your first choice school. Apply EA/ED and you'll be fine.
