Chances for the U?

Junior over here
OOS New Hampshire
Weighted GPA: 3.77 (Likely 3.8 by time I submit applications)
Unweighted GPA: 3.67 or something (Only Freshman and Sophomore)
Took all CPs Freshman year, Honors Biology and Honors Algebra II Sophomore Year, and Honors Modern World Literature (0.5 credit), Honors Precalculus, Honors British Literature I (0.5 credit), Honors Chemistry, AP Biology, and AP US Government (Online) Junior year
Should mention that my GPA has been raising extensively throughout the years (Might be a bit lower than last year, but still an overall increase)
ACT: 30 Composite (33 Math, 25 Reading, 30 English, and 30 Science); It was also my first try, which is nice. I plan to retake at least one more time.
SAT II: I took Math II and Bio E. I confirm that I will not be retaking them, so if they are good (600+), I will send them. If not,
Major: Biomedical Engineering
Senior Year Schedule: AP Calculus AB, AP Computer Science A, AP Physics I, AP Psychology, Journalism (Online; No English courses, including CP, fit my schedule), Honors Choir, and Internship for AP Biology.
In terms of a foreign language, I went up to French III and was originally in Honors French IV, but dropped past the deadline to take Choir (Was too late for Honors).
ECs:
Varsity Tennis (9)
JV Tennis (11; None 10th grade and it got super competitive);
Debate Club (11)
Math Club/Mathletes (11)
Marine Biology Club (11)
Science National Honors Society (11)
I plan on doing all of these again senior year, where I think I may add NHS.

Community Service: Around 60 hours (Likely 100 by the time I start submitting applications)
Work: I got hired by a job and will work about 40 hours a week for the summer
Recommendation Letters: I got the two letters. Both are from teachers where even though my grade is not high (B+/A-), I actively participate in class, help students, and make the entire class laugh (in a good way).

I made this a while ago, but my stats overall have changed a lot.

I think you stand a good chance of getting into CSE as long as you can increase your ACT score by a few points, which you have plenty of time to do.

@JohnStamoskian1
I only am retaking it once, so what do you think with my current ACT score.

The CSE ACT average this year was 31. something so I think you would have a good shot with a 30.

Keep in mind that weighted GPA is not considered. If the U really is your #1 school I would recommend taking it as many times as you need in order to really get it up there. I had friends with similar stats get turned away from CSE this year.

^^@3RiversMom was that Avg. ACT score announced for the incoming class (fall 2018) or are you getting that off UMN’s admissions page? Median and Mean ACT for CSE enrolled students fall 2017 is 32, and 30 is at the 25th percentile.

UMN admits based on stats (uw GPA, test scores) and course load as primary factors. Therefore, unless you have a hook of some kind (for CSE that can, but is not guaranteed to, include being female), it’s best to try to get your scores as close to the mean as possible. UW GPA will also be a factor as there are lots of near perfect GPA’s who are admitted.

Subject scores, EC’s and rec. letters are secondary factors for admission. They will be considered but are not necessary and do not carry as much weight as the primary factors do.

@BiologyMajorHere are you a rising Junior or Senior now? If the former, you have time to get your GPA and test scores up a bit; consider re-testing in the fall if you feel ready or the spring (which is the typical time for standardized testing).

Good Luck!

I am a senior and I am not taking the ACT again. My final GPA submitted to them will be a 3.81 weighted and 3.65 unweighted. I got a 3 on AP Biology and a 3 on AP US Gov. I will have taken a total of 5 APs. These are my final stats. At this point, I know it may be difficult, but I still believe that it is within reach. At this point, I am just hoping for the best of luck.
