Hey guys, I am applying to 6 boarding schools for freshman year: Choate Rosemary Hall, Phillips Exeter Academy, St. Paul's School, Deerfield Academy, and Hotchkiss. I got all A-'s except 2 B+'s and go to The Potomac School in Mclean, VA (a private school). I have lived in Russia, England, Ukraine, and the U.S. throughout my life, and have played the clarinet for about 5 years along with numerous sports like football and wrestling in and outside of school. I got an 85 percentile reading in the SSAT, 96 vocab, and 99 for math. Do you think there's at least a chance I can get in? My mom has been telling me that there's almost no chance after getting my grades soo I want to see if I can still get in.

yes, you have a great chance but only the reviewer of your application will know best.

My first piece of advice would be to re-read the first sentence of your post.

f-i-f...did you bet the moneyline or take the Giants and the points? More importantly, are you buying dinner for all of us with your winnings?

I like Olive Garden, but I'll settle for a lifetime supply of KitKats. ;)

What grade are you applying for?

He's applying for 9th grade.

The funster has many vices (all you kids out there pay attention, Vicodin is not for the faint of heart) but gambling is not one, at least not on the scale needed to feed this mob.

As a fan of THE NEW YORK FOOTBALL GIANTS for 45 years, I have been quite busy today needling, taunting and in general being a big meanie to every mopey Patricheat's fan I can find. Good times.

It was like watching a pool player run the table and then scratching on the 8 ball. OUCH!

wow yeah thanks for pointing that out i forgot to add Phillips Academy Andover to the list

i think your mom's wrong to say you have almost no chance, i think you've prob. got a great chance!!!! what happened at your interview? did they say anything special?

Well, I know many kids at the schools you mentioned...paricularly Exeter and Andover, and I would say you have a very good chance. Your SSAT's are definitely in line with what they're looking for and your grades are excellent (particularly combined with the fact that you are from a private school). If you have excellent recs, essays, interview, combined with your ec's, I would think you have a shot. Not a "shoe-in" as I don't see any particular hook, but a strong candidate, nonetheless. If you were my child I would be positive (and realistically so) about your chance. Still, if I were your parent, I would have had you apply to schools that were not all reaches. It can be a real crap-shoot because all of these schools have to turn away applicants worthy of admission; just too many apply.

the interviews were relatively good, particularly with st. paul's, andover, and deerfield. the st. paul's guy got really into the discussion and started talking about his job and stuff and said im a very strong candidate, and also criticized a previous guy he interviewed (if that means anything). for deerfield and andover they were really envious of the fact i lived all over the world. and my mom's pretty hardcore in grades and stuff since my dad went to harvard for a PhD so i guess thats why she acts kind of ridiculously

well, good luck! i hope we both get in! lol

im starting to think i don't have enough extracurriculars. what do these schools usually expect from applicants?

whoa bigpoppa94, u lived in that many countries wow

yeah it was pretty hectic moving around so much. any other opinions on my chances?

i think you've got a pretty good shot, i mean, it's impossible to say since we don't have your recs or essays or anything, but your definitely in the running!
