Judging from these stats alone, what are my chances for Binghamton University's engineering school?

GPA: 90% (About 3.7)
SAT: 1800 One sitting (650 for Math and 570 for Critical Reading)

I'm a bit worried since my SAT grades aren't up to par for Bing's engineering. I thought I was only going to take the ACT but apparently I didn't use a #2 pencil and f'd up my scores. I had to take the SAT last minute without studying and had to suffer for it.

GPA is where it should be but your SAT is below average.

There are so many other factors you haven’t mentioned though. Is that GPA weighted? How rigorous were your classes? Class rank? Then there are other things like ECs, essay, and recommendations that are all considered in your decision.

We would need more information to give an appropriate “chance”.

Catria: The only schools I applied to are 4 of the SUNYs.

yankees: 90 weighted, 4 ap classes (including senior year), ranked 72/461, I’m not too sure about my essay to be honest. My english teacher was it didn’t show who I was but I submitted it anyway. My EC’s are pretty much sub par; it’s the only thing I regret more than the SAT thing

I would say that you are a match because Binghamton has accepted students in the past with SAT scores lower than yours. I would recommend that you keep them updated about your activities and awards over the next few months and express interest in their school (send letters to admissions counselors, but don’t overdo it). If you do this, then I think you have a very good chance on being admitted.

It also matters what school you applied to at Bing. Watson School of Engineering and the School of Management are pretty competitive, but Harpur Arts and Sciences and the Public Affairs college aren’t as competitive.

The middle 50% of SAT scores are 1190-1390 and 91-97% GPA. More and more people have been applying to SUNYs and they said they project this year’s middle 50% SAT to be 1300-1500. Plus, this is the engineering program. More weight is placed on the Math section and I was rejected with a 660. Good Luck.

Well… I was just deferred from Buffalo and Stony Brook EA. I thought those two schools were a sure thing. Now I’m really nervous… Any more chances?

Oops. I meant to say I was rejected from NYU ED and waitlisted for NYU Poly EA. I tried to edit, but the button goes away after some time or something. I was just accepted to Stony Brook. Yay.
