I'm looking at the top three UCs (UCB, UCLA, UCSD)

I know I posted this a while ago. But I have quite a few updates so that's why I'm reposting. I'm just a bit worried at my chances.

Oh and I am in-state and eligible for ELC.

At just a glance, you don't seem to be a strong enough applicant to get into Berkeley, UCLA, or UCSD. I say this mainly based on your scores which are VERY important in the UC system. Without at the very least, a 2000+ on the SAT or a 30+ on the ACT, I don't think you'll be admitted. However, I encourage you to retake the tests to increase your chances.

I know lots of people with sub-2000 SAT scores and great GPA's (like the OP)that got accepted into UCLA and Cal during the past two years. GPA is the main thing for those schools. Good luck.

OK GPA, terrible SAT 1, and horrible SAT IIs.

REJECT at all.

Power to the Gaffe.

(^^^^They need to be tactful...Jeeze people these day)

You have some pretty decent EC.

I would consider retaking your SATs, since they'll see them when you send in your SAT IIs.

They seem to be reaches at the moment. Improve your tests scores and you'll stand a chance.

You might want to consider finding some more schools that match your current scores, just in case.

Good luck.

youll need to get your sat score up a atleast a couple hundred points to have a shot at UCSD,UCLA, and UC Berkeley. A 1760 is just to low, but work on getting them up to close to a 2000 and that should give you a good shot at UCSD and UCLA. Your GPA is good. Best of luck!

I thought a 28 ACT was around a 1900? But yeah, I'm definitely retaking it as when I practiced for the ACT from the Real ACT Book (took 3 practice tests) I always scored 31-33 composite and I timed myself. The only problem and this was a mistake on my part is I didn't time myself actually bubbling in the answers (I just circled them in the book) which made me have to blindly guess on like 8 for each section because I was always 3 minutes short (I did finish the math section and got a 34).

Berkeley/UCLA: reach
UCSD: slight reach

Your GPA is a little low, your ECs are somewhat mediocre (many of the things you list aren't extracurriculars, but honors/awards), mediocre test scores (but will improve, as you say).

Your ECs are pretty impressive and will help lots in your application process. Did the proposal to the principal actually work though? Your GPA is ok but your test scores are like eh, which may lead the schools to suspect grade inflation. So raise those scores! Once that's done, you have pretty good chances at the UCs. Good luck!

Chance me?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=368144

Yes, the proposal did work and he has agreed to at least begin some energy conservation plans. He also referred me to the district manager with who I will be proposing a district-wide energy conservation plan this summer (as well as recycling).

ECs are not that important for a UC- grades & SAT scores are key. Remember how many applications UC admission officers have to read through....
