Poli Sci/History/English/Literature/Government/Economics Major?

EC's: Tennis team captain, Speech Team, Scholar Bowl Team, Key Club President> Key Club Illinois-Iowa District Lt Governor and Kiwanis Family Relations District Committee Chair, Women in Leadership Club Founder/President 2years, 2 separate summer jobs, an ongoing internship with the Lt. Governor of Illinois, French club vice pres (jr year only), 2 summer volunteer programs (library and Habitat for Humanity local build), lots of volunteer hours, National Honors Society, and last summer I audited a Trial Advocacy Course at the Law School.

I am from Southern Illinois, school sends 1-3 kids to an Ivy per year(NOTE: they all have had better ACT scores than me(34-36), but not better EC's necessarily) , and about 5 others to other top schools (Wash U, UCLA, etc.) I am not sure how many enroll in 4 year institutions per year, but it is safe to assume a good chunk. I would say the majority.

I know this is partially ridiculous due to the lack of info on recs and essays, but I think the essays are like..A worthy if you ask me. Not that that means much. And I specifically asked two teachers who could emphasize my strengths. My counselor was also my tennis coach freshman year and just so happens to be a family friend. She is awesome and we get along so I am not worried there. If any of that helps a tad bit. And the Lt. Governor of Illinois is sending out a recommendation letter for me. But idk how much that will help because i never read it.

(no relatives go to or have gone to any of those, but both my parents are college grads-lawyer and engineer. Live with my single mother, who works legal aid=~$50k a year. one sibling just graduated same local college parents attended)

Your GPA isn’t “bad” but many applicants will have 4.5 or above. If your school doesn’t allow anyone to take so many AP / honors classes, that’s a different story.

However, your ACT score should be higher for those schools since you lack a “hook.” What is your ethnicity?

the highest weighted GPA possible at my school is a 4.4. we are able to take plenty of honors classes…but we do not get honors credit for any more than 8 years worth. At the end of this year I will have taken 17. The highest unweighted is 4.0.

That is probably something that may be different at most schools, should have mentioned it earlier. Sorry.
However, if you mean the fact that it is a 3.97 instead of a 4.0…I don’t know. That’s not something I have ever heard before.

But other stuff makes sense. My ACT feels low but I cannot really control that. I gave it my best try twice and my mom will not pay for it again (not that I think I can do any better, nor do I believe that to be the key to acceptance. CCers disagree with me on that…but whatever). A 32 is within range, and hopefully it will be okay. My superscored SAT will hopefully be a bit higher though, if I superscore my practice tests with my first real try I get around a 2200. I didn’t list that since it is not official yet. We will see.

I am half Persian and my mother is a Jewish American btw. The combo is odd, but I do not have a hooked ethnic background either way.

Does anyone have like a more holistic review of my app?
