Rank: 4/208 unweighted.... basically im the top student if we had weighted GPA
School type: Rural noncompetitive, aka no one goes to any of those schools but umich
EC: Robotics (12), Lion's Club (10,11,12), SADD (10,11,12), Chemistry research with professor (12), Mentoring elementary students (11, 12, 5 hours a week)

Recommendations will be good! One is from the math department chair and my professor, my counselor really likes me i know, etc, the usuals

Extenuating circumstances: Heroin and crack addicted parents, spent most of my time in ghetto panhandling with my parents, moved each year, sometimes more than once, foster care, abuse, lived in a trailer, very poor, father passing away in sophomore year, lived in a hotel for a month, mother is severely ill, etc..

Thanks!

With those circumstances, that will look super good. I really apologize in advance if that comes off as rude or callous. Given what you have achieved with what you had to face, and the level of classes you have taken, I will say you probably have a good shot at at least 1 off those schools. Don’t take my word for it though, since Im just a kid as well.

Sounds Really good, but remember that most schools REQUIRE 2 Sat Subject Tests.

im instate for michigan by the way.

Also, I am applying with Questbridge, designed to give students from poor backgrounds a better shot into colleges like Yale, MIT, etc

BUMP Someone else?

For UMich CoE in state with ACT 32 and uwGPA 3.98, you should be a high match considering an admission rate of 20% or lower this year. Your GPA is slightly above average while ACT is slightly below average for admission. In state residence gives you a big advantage.
However, you seems to be lack of planning. Taking the ACT (and the only attempt so far) without preparation is a bad move. If you think you can get a better score but not yet retaking it is another bad plan. If you did prepare for the test thoroughly, then you should be either all set with a better score or even aiming at an even better score that may get you merit aid by now. With your current score, most of the other schools are low reach to reach, some depending on your intended major.
I assume you are interested in engineering, but your list of schools is half aim for fame rather than for great engineering schools. Think about what you want to study and check the NPC of these schools, then you can narrow down your list a bit. You have too many reach schools on the list.

I don’t need merit aid… My mom makes like 25000 a year for four people, and the predicted financial aid for that range is full coverage. Also, I am in the middle 50% for Umich Engineering, and over average for Umich LSA ACT…Umich CoE 31-34 middle 50%, LSA is like 30-33 ish

I am interested in engineering, but I’m also interested in biological research and bioengineering… Yale and Harvard are highly known for biological research.

Yes, you are within the mid 50 for CoE (based on the numbers from the last 2 years). The median ACT is 33 this year and the admission rate is 20%. That is why you are still just a high match. UMich does meet full need for in state student.
The other schools are still reaches except for LAS at UIUC, however, they do not give much aid, if at all, to OOS.

Ive been working in a Biomedical Engineering Lab at Yale over the summer as well as now during my senior year on an independent project, and I can vouch somewhat for the strength of the department. PM Me if interested

Like others have said, the background story and Questbridge really increase your chances for top schools. Some math/physics extracurriculars would be a nice pair with your dual-enrollment classes, especially at schools like Caltech and MIT. You will need another SAT II test, but retaking the ACT is optional.

With your circumstances, I would be surprised if you didn’t get into at least one Ivy.

Since you’re applying to so many top tier schools I can only suggest that you get your ACT score up somehow, I currently have a 34 composite and am still expecting a struggle to get into the schools I want (which are similar tier to yours). Good luck and I am sorry for the hardships you had to endure in your life, you turned out well in your circumstances :). Also consider taking an SAT II in Science, since you may need one for a Biomedical Engineering Major.

No, your ACT score is fine lol. Haven’t you guys seen his circumstances? He’s a low-income and first generation student – for him to have received a 32 ACT and 800 SAT II math is already a great accomplishment. Universities don’t compare two people from completely different backgrounds together. Admissions are called holistic for a reason. The suggestion I have would be to get leadership roles and show compassion/passion. If you don’t of those + great essay, even your unique background won’t make up for it enough.

OP did not say he is a first generation college student though.

I am a first generation college student.

Any other information missing? URM?

I’m not URM. Just questbridge, first gen
