Chances for Top Schools

Hi,

I was curious what people thought my chances might be for some of the Ivys (Harvard, Yale, Brown) and top liberal arts (Amherst, Williams). Also, any ideas for other schools or safeties would be appreciated.

4.15 GPA (UW)
Ranked 2 of 300
SAT I- 750 Reading, 790 Math, 720 Writing
SAT IIC Math-800
Probably 4 or 5 on AP US History and Calc AB
Will take 3 more APs next year, and college math

Debate Co-Captain, previous state champs
Student Council VP, Varsity Softball
Math League-6th place, Chorus, Peer Tutoring
Will be 4 years for everything except tutoring, which will be my second

Dartmouth Book Award, Bausch and Lomb, plus other awards

weak Extracurriculars...

Nothing really special about you stands out... Why would ivy leage want you? You seem to not have a passion about anything...

Sorry... You could always try harder next time (That is if you believe in reincarnation :) )

Go-vibe,
what do you know about admissions?
Geez...why is you post so inconsiderate?

Alison, you seem be a very strong candidate.
Though your EC's are not neccesarily the most unique among the applicant pools for the schools you've listed, they nonetheless display some dedication.

My question for you Alison, is what do you want from the schools you are applying to?

go-vibe's an ass...he basically says that to everyone...don't listen to him

go-vibe you give the cc's in this forum a bad name

Allison... I think Amherest would be a great fit for you!

I second Amherst

4.15 UW GPA??? what the hell??

Its possible; some schools give out 4.35's for A+'s.

at our school, an A is a 4 and an A+ is 4.33

your numbers are good. you need two more sat subject tests. but your ECs are a bit ordinary for HYP applicants.

i say big reach for HYP. reach for lower ivies. good chance at lower ivy ED

for matches/safeties, look at the other nescac schools (tufts, wesleyan, bates, bowdoin, colby, conn college, trinity, hamilton, middlebury)

I say you can go anywhere you want to with that

i second goodcolleges

No, I'm trying to be frank... He/she lacks serious ECs which is frowned GREATLY upon by admission officers.

Trust me, I know several people who work for admissions in top schools, so I DO know what I'm talking about

What would you consider a serious EC then? I'm not trying to be rude, I'm just curious about what your perspective is, as well as why my activities (especially debate, which I am involved in for 3 seasons/year) isn't "serious".

welll they mean that you should show passion in one area of interest for ECs and that it's not very "unique" per se.

HYPS and other top schools probably have students who have been in debate for 3 years as well, so it doesn't stand out.

you can't do anything for ECs right now if you're a rising senior, so think of ways to tie them up (common theme or something) if you have any.

It will be helpful if you could calc your GPA in generally accepted standards

A=4
B+=3.5
B=3
and so on.

I say you have very strong numbers. also your rank says it all pretty much that you're a very smart student.

don't worry, you'll do fine. apply to the schools you really want to go and show off yourself with great essays and good recs. It'll all work out ok!

P.S. chorus, huh? I'm in chorus,too! lol
