I apologize if this is too thorough, this is my own personal track sheet that I keep on hand. I applied in February to Tulane and as of today my application is pending review. I applied and was accepted to the University of New Orleans, which was my safe school. I hope to double major in Finance and Film Production (or Digital Media Production as it is known as at Tulane)

Thanks, Everyone!

I don’t know much about Tulane, so I’m also interested to see what u guys have to say about this. Your EC’s r great, same for your grades.
Personally I assumed that Tulane was a low level unknown school just because they are the most desperate school that has ever emailed me. They email me over and over again and use words like ‘please apply to Tulane with your free application! No essay or recommendations required!’
Ya so I never took the time to apply, but if utell me it is an ok school I might. I’m not sure why they email me…maybe cause I’m a ptk member.

First to the OP, your chances at Tulane seem reasonable to me. It all depends on how much space they have, and their retention has gone up quite a bit. But let them know of your strong interest and I think you should have as good a shot as anyone. Have you visited? They really value that.

solidblu - your post made me chuckle. Tulane is ranked #50 in USNWR, which is the first page and all, but it actually is ranked #30 if you go by average test scores of the incoming classes the last 3 years. In other words, it is a very good and pretty well known school by most. There are tons of schools that market themselves like Tulane, although most don’t do the free app. Anyway, they have been doing this since 2002 and it has been very successful. The average test scores have risen almost 100 points, just counting SAT CR & M. They probably e-mail you because your test scores must be in the range they recruit.

BTW, what’s ptk?

Chemist- lol ok so maybe I should have been slower to judge Tulane, I suppose I will apply. My sat is like 2010 so that could be why they email me. Ptk is Phi Theta Kappa, a community college honor society for 3.5+ kids that (I’m pretty sure) tries to help u out by giving your email out to colleges that may be interested in their members. Thanks for it advice btw, and I’m glad I could give u a laugh haha. I think I will apply, I may as well.

@fallenchemist - I won’t be able to visit until the summer due to unforeseen financial circumstances, but thanks for letting me know that. I called and emailed twice to make sure that all parts of my application were received, though.

@solidblu, - Yeah, Tulane sent me their personal app too through Phi Theta Kappa, I just wish I’d been smarter and applied earlier!

Cool, sounds like you have both done great! Best of luck to you.

Tulane sent me an app throug Phi Theta Kappa too (online.) I presume it was through PTK because I haven’t taken the SATs in years. They said it was free to apply so I thought, what the heck, why not. They’ve received all my transcripts, etc, but haven’t sent me a yea or nay yet . . . I’m interested to see if I’ll get in.

Oh man, if you thought Tulane’s were bad . . . I had one college that sent me e-mails with progressively creepier subject lines. They started out mild enough . . . “Apply at College of BlahBlah” and “College of Blah Blah wants you” . . . then progressed to vaguely personal ones like “[name], another day to apply JUST FOR YOU” and e-mails that started off, “[name], I was disappointed not to find your application on my desk . . .” From there it was a short hop to “We’re waiting for you.” and “Why haven’t you applied to College of BlahBlah yet?”

I joked with my friends that next they’d be sending me e-mails saying, “[name], we’re standing outside your window . . . staring in” and “Turn in your application to College of BlahBlah. We’re waiting in the parking lot with binoculars.”

In the end I DID apply, so I guess you could say their tactics worked! (And they were actually the first college I got an acceptance from, so there you go.)

There is a company called Royall that appears to be responsible for most of this. The NY Times has done articles on them, Google it and take a look. Nothing really wrong with it, but it is aggressive.

I just checked Gibson Online–I was accepted!!

I just found out that I was accepted to Tulane as a junior transfer & I was awared $10k for the Collegiate Achievement Award! For those of you who haven’t heard back yet, here are my stats:

HS: Bad GPA, probably around a 3.1
College: Small NY state school, doesn’t have a great reputation- very easy to get into. 3.76 cumulative GPA, 4.0 last semester.
Extra currics: Don’t remember if they asked me for these, but I’m President of my school’s Psychology Club. Other than that, I work at a hospital part time, volunteer at various places, and am a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
Essay: I personally thought the essay was a strong one. I submitted the same one to Columbia U.

Didn’t need to submit my ACT or SAT since I’ll be a junior luckily.

Good luck eveyrone! If I end up at Tulane, maybe I’ll see some of you there!!!

@Chernabogsays - Seems like you have a great chance, especially when I compare your grades to mine. Best of luck!

Congrats to all of you that will be attending Tulane in the fall!

I didn’t get in…ouch.
