Chances for transfering?

i attend a cc in maryland.
having a gpa of 3.5-3.7 and being a freshman, i'm just wondering what do u think that the chances for me to transfer to the following universities for engineering are:
(mainly for electrical engr: )
MIT
University of Michigan-ann arbor
cornell
carnegie mellon
northwestern u
(mainly for bioengr: )
U-penn
UVa
university of pittsburg
thanks

3.3 cc to mit? good luck pal...

lol when did i say 3.3? i said i should probably have a 3.5-3.7 by the end of next spring.
btw i know that wouldn't take me into Mit, but what about the other universities?

Obviously other things factor into the decision, but a solid GPA is always good. If you get get a 3.7, awesome. Try to get it even higher. From what I can tell, GPA is probably more important than anything else. BUT, if you have an interesting story, or your body of work otherwise shows the sort of (awesome) student you are, I wouldn't discredit yourself. I've said this before on this board - most kids on her are a bit arrogant, insecure, and hyper-competitive. Don't let them get you down. It's not easy for ANYONE to get into those schools, but you wouldn't have looked into them if you didn't think you could get in. Don't expect admission, but work toward a fair judgment.

Make sure you delve through all of the programs offered at each school. Try not to apply to too many (my apps got a little out of hand, I got too excited!) but make sure you apply to at least ONE school that you A) know you can get into and B) actually WANT to go to.

Good luck, MIT is the coolest school on the face of the planet!

I would add some safer schools. Coming from a cc, even with a 4.0, your chances are slim at those schools.

Im gonna have to say to you, all of the schools on your list are HUGE reaches.
For some schools you have there, EX. MIT, UPenn, its hard to get in with a 4.0 from a state university. Like niddumas said, pick some safety schools, where you're sure that you'll get in.

hmmm...let me add some more stuff: well actually i'm happy to say i'm getting a 3.8 this semester and i guess i'll have something similar next semester (by that time i should've finished 35 credits) and i got my sat scores which was 2090 and i'm going to become a math tutor at our cc next semester.
so u think that if next year (my sophomore yr) i transfer to university of maryland-college park (which is quite easy for me since they have an agreement with our cc) and i maintain about the same gpa (or maybe 3.7ish) id have a nice chance to transfer to those schools (or at least the ones like pitts, uva, and michigan-annarbor)?

with a 3.8 CGPA and a 2090 SAT score, i think you have a great chance at getting accepted to Ann arbor, pitts and uva. Good luck.

I know that Ann Arbor heavily favors in state students..even for transfer. I dont know about Pitt..i suppose UVA does also..most state universities do.

But I say, give it a shot, theres no harm in trying : ) ...I already applied to Michigan for Fall 08.
