I posted this on the transfer section, but I figured I'd repost it here as well since Stern is my top choice. I've heard lots of grave things about transferring into Stern, so I'm trying to find a couple rebuttals to those (hopeful) myths. JWblue, I read on another thread where you said transferring into Stern is more difficult than CAS. I'd really appreciate it if you'd take a look at my stats, see what you think...given you used to work in the admin department and all. Thanks everyone! Without further ado:

White male.
Currently at Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX.
Current 3.8 GPA this semester, 3.6 GPA cumulative.
Member of the Honors program, and various clubs; I won't pain you by listing them all here.
--for what it's worth, strong writing skills. I'm counting on writing a fairly strong essay, which hopefully should help some.

I've heard somewhere that in recent years 1700 transfer students were competing for only 3 spots in Stern. I hope that's not the case...but if it is, cest la vie. Thanks everyone!

I'll have around 62 credits or so. I'm currently majoring in business and have taken micro/macro-economics, 6 credits of introductory accounting, calculus I, statistics, 6 credits of foreign language (spanish), and an expository writing class. Those should fulfill all of the transferr equirements for Stern; apart from them, I've taken a broad liberal arts study: enviro. science, philosophy, music, anthropology, sociology, etc.

Here's a recap of my stats:
3.6-3.7 GPA @ Southwestern University, business major
1270 SAT (1310 if individual highest verbal/math scores are counted)
28 ACT
Member of the Southwestern honors program
Lead editor for Southwestern film club

in high school:
Top 25%, 3.58 GPA

Thanks a lot everyone! I'm really hoping Stern isn't as outrageously hard for transfer admission as I've heard it is.

on a serious note, your not gettin in transfer student, im not sure if its as bad as 3 for 1700 applicants, but its outlandishly hard, and internal students get preference in transfers I believe, and even with that its ridiculously hard to transfer.

To get into sterns transfer you need to be in a school of similar caliber, have stats to get into Sterns originally, and have like a 4.0 in college....

stop man. you have "zero" chance. i am sorry but this is the reality. live in Texas, and die there when God calls you. graduate from a community college, get married and go bankrupt, and have ridiculously many children and unable to pay for their colleges and send them to community colleges too like you did. pass down your legacy, your family will prosper.

i am sorry. i can clearly see that you can never move up from your current class.

That is definitely not true. I transferred into NYU last semester and I had no where near a 4.0 Since your going in as a juinor your high school grades will not bear major influence on your admission which is good because your SAT is below average for STERN. Your college gpa is right on target for admission as a transfer. Make sure that you write a great essay.

don't ask me what they are because I have no clue. California? phoo for get it. I will never go there even once in my life, i bet my phucking dog
