I will most likely be a National Merit Finalist in the fall

*i know that my EC's are a little weak, but thats b/c im so focused on basketball. my school is really good at bball. last season we had one player sign with ASU, another Army, and one more at Western New Mexico State, and this coming year we start two kids over 6'9" (im the shortest starter at only 5'10" haha). we were in the state championship last year, and U of A comes to our open gyms to scout us. unfortunately, im not sure if colleges will know how good my HS team is and i dont think many people know how much a commitment basketball is (countless hours shooting, lifting, conditioning, playing, etc)

Thanks for your input!

I would say you are admitted for sure. At least you will get 1/2 tuition as an NMF. Trustees will depend on your interview (if you are invited!) Study some of the threads here on what happens in those interviews.

Trustee is VERY hard. I think only 30 people get it each year.

I thought they said they offer 100 Trustees?

Admissions page says-
100 Trustee scholarships (full tuition)
200 Presidential scholarships (half tuition)
<a href="http://www.usc.edu/admission/fa/sg/entering_undergrad_meritbased/%5B/url%5D">http://www.usc.edu/admission/fa/sg/entering_undergrad_meritbased/</a></p>

are my stats good enough to get a trustees interview?

The Trustee interview is based mostly on essays. Make sure your essays are stellar.

I just checked the profile for my class <a href="http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/private/docs/admission/Freshman_Profile_2006.pdf%5B/url%5D">http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/private/docs/admission/Freshman_Profile_2006.pdf</a>
and it states that there were 101 trustee scholars and 361 presidential scholars in the entering class. Interesting, as this is more than the other source says that they give out. Perhaps they have increased the number of merit scholarships awarded. As an Explore USC student host, I do know that there is a high yield of merit scholars as most of the people I hosted are attending this fall.

Huh, a Presidential told me 30. Guess that shows what he knew.

To be honest, at a certain point, enough applicants have near-perfect stats...it's more about your application.

With your stats, expect to be invited to interview for Trustees. Who gets it depends on the department of your major. Make sure you go to the interview and are well prepared to stand out.

ps I'm scared to see what you would consider good ECs if you think your own are weak

haha makkuroi i dont have the hundreds of community service hours that some high school kids do just to look good for colleges, but im glad ive spent most of my high school doing things that actually meant something to me ;)

well i visited USC yesterday and i LOVED it. very beautiful campus and seems like a strong school academically (though i heard not as good as UCLA, Berkely--anyone have more input on that assertion?). i did the regular 3 hour Meet USC tour, but the best part was the private tour the USC track coach gave our family. met pete carroll, tim floyd, etc and it was just awesome. USC is definately at the top of my list and hopefully everything works out financially!

yeah, see, i'm a strong supporter of community service but i think people disregard the value of the great extracurriculars they have because they think they don't have enough community service. 10 hours a week in very high-skill level ECs (especially with leadership!) should not be called "weak" compared to 15 hours a week of community service done just to look good on an application. your ECs are as strong as the amount of your own heart that you put into them, no more and no less (and the reason we write essays to apply is so we can demonstrate the heart we put into something where numbers can not convey). don't underestimate yourself!

USC has great academics, but as far as the rankings go it varies by major and program (cinema is #1! that's me, haha)

the class where you watch movies before they come out seems awesome! the tour guide said this year the class got to watch 300 early and talk with the director

How are my chances for Trustee??

34 ACT
2160 SAT (can improve?)
Ranked 4/680.
4.9 GPA (W)
Good EC's
Great Essays

Bump!!!!!!!!!
