according to college board, tufts, during the transfer pool of 2009, they had 748 applicants for transfer and accepted 148 for the fall. That’s about 19.79 acceptance rate, but with your stats you have a high chance of getting in. With tuft’s extreme selectivity regarding transfers it really comes down to a crap shoot regardless of academic prowess. best of luck to you.

thanks for the input, anyone else?

Make sure that your essays capture what Tufts offers that UCSB doesn’t. As well, diplomatically, mention what doesn’t work for you at UCSB that you anticipate, based on your rigorous inventory-taking of Tufts, will be resolved by being a student at Tufts. Because one thing is very true of 4-year universities/colleges who take transfer students, the first spots are given over to exceptional performance students from junior colleges who have nowhere to go. Students coming from 4-year universities don’t as acutely need to transfer as the JCers, so make a strong case for yourself. And be sure that your recs don’t merely mention your academic strengths but what your personal mettle is like.

Good luck to you–my daughter got in ED1 and is headed to Tufts for the class of 2015, after she does a Gap year. It’s a very special place, although I think that UCSB can be idyllic for the right student, too.

I agree for UCSB, I am just not that student. That is awesome she is taking a gap year, I am taking 6 months off to go to Thailand. My personal recs are exactly like you said and more. They are REALLY about who I am, potential I have, what about me stands out etc… I developed quality relationships with two of my professors. My common app essay tells a lot about what you said as well as my tufts supplemental essays. Knowing this, what do you think my shot is?

Well I think you have a better shot than I do, if that helps.

I also think it’s nice to write a separate and personal note/card about reiterating what is so singular about Tufts and your earnestness in attending–e.g. that you’re not applying elsewhere for transfer (if this is true!), so you won’t be forsaking Tufts if you get in. Sort of like a thank-you note.

i was accepted as a transfer last year:

tufts admission is holistic and honestly i also feel that it is a crap shoot.

good luck
