So what are my chances? This is a target-safety school.

I wouldn’t put Tulane in the “safety” category for you, but I think your chances are pretty good. Weakest thing is the ACT, but if you really got it to a 28 then your chances get much better. But even if it stayed the same, given your strong AP course history, good GPA, decent EC’s and community work, and assuming good recs, plus your URM status I think you would likely be OK.

Can you visit the campus if you haven’t already? Unfortunately the Chicago local event already took place, although I don’t know if that is where you are in IL. If you happen to be closer to St. Louis (unlikely since you say Top 3 in IL and I don’t know of any that close to St. Louis) there will be an event October 23 at the Hilton in Frontenac. If neither of those things work for you, just be sure to let the admissions person for your area, Erica Rench, know of your strong interest in Tulane. You can also make that clear by doing the “Why Tulane” part of the application.

As an aside, I would leave the Architectural Apprenticeship and the Attendance Award off your resume. The former isn’t something you liked so it adds nothing, and the latter sounds a bit cheesy, at least to me. But others may disagree.

With your ACT scores, Tulane is not a target-safety school for you, it is much more of a reach. The median ACT scores are 29-32 and while we all know that ACT scores aren’t everything, they do play a part. If you raise your ACT scores and write a stellar Why Tulane essay on your application, I think you have a shot, but by no means are you a shoo-in.

Got deferred :/

freedom, why don’t you retake the ACT and take the SAT, if you improve, send your new scores to your admissions counselor and hopefully that will help you. good luck

@jozuko Maybe, Tulane wasn’t really my top choice and after the application i realized they didn’t have my major. I’ll send in my fall my midyear report and some other pieces and hope for the best

What is your anticipated major, freedom?
