One strange fact: Technically I am an plumbing apprentice. I could get my journeyman's before I go to college. Hey, women plumbers get paid at lot of money. =] Haha.

Anyways, chances for University of Michigan, Northwestern, Cornell, and Stanford (Both major reaches I already know.)

Any other suggestions for colleges would be great. I am looking to major in psychology or sociology. Want to go on to law so I can one day grow up to do something in children's rights. Also, I want to get a business degree because my family wants me to.

Bumbishness.. Help please?

First of all, don't worry about the 3.89 UW GPA freshman year. You are in the top 2% of your class and the 33 on the ACT is very good.

The only reason why colleges would look down on someone with a "sub 4.0 GPA" if that person goes to a school where everyone gets 4.0's and if the person has poor test scores.. neither which is the case for you.

Since you are in-state, you should definitely be in Michigan.. apply there as early as possible next year. NU & Cornell are high matches and Stanford is Stanford.

I would also recommend Penn & Duke.. both would be reaches, but they are for just about everyone. Both have excellent pre-law programs and are fun places with bright students.

Finally, you get bonus points for being a plumber's apprentice, :D

Haha thank you.
Would I have a better shot at Stanford Penn or Duke?

Definitely Penn & Duke over Stanford.
Penn & Duke are about equal in difficulty, unless you were going to apply to Wharton...then Wharton may even be harder than Stanford.

Sorry.. But I'm stupid. What is Wharton?

Everybody in my family and pretty much everybody I know has gone to community colleges so I have no idea what any colleges are. My guidance counsellor is horrible to so I can't go to her for advice.

Wharton is Penn's undergrad business school.

As for guidance counselors, it seems like many just go to school to collect their paychecks, :p.

Yeah. I tested out of pre-calc and when I went to go ask my counselor how to sign up for the test out, she didn't even know we could. I was like uh... and how are u working here?

Haha!

Hopefully your counselor next year knows more about colleges and the workings of his or her own school!

My GC is nice, but anytime I ask for advice, the response I get is "Do what you want", lol.

Blah dumb counsellors suck.
