Hello! I am currently an INCOMING sophomore in high school, and I was just wondering if you guys would consider my chances of going to any of the following UCs (Davis, Los Angeles, Berkeley, Irvine, San Diego, and Santa Barbara). To start, I only was enrolled in one honor class during freshman year, which was Honors Biology. This year, I am taking: Honors Chemisty, Honors English II, and AP Art History. My current GPA is 4.0 (weighted is 4.2).
As for extracurricular activities, I am currently a staff writer for my city's newspaper and I am a Peer Listener on campus (it is sorta like a student counselor). I am the secretary for FBLA and I am in other clubs, but no leadership positions! For awards, I only have one as of right now and it is the PTA National Reflections Contest in the category Literature, 1st Place. I haven't taken the SATs or PSATs yet, nor any of the SAT II Subject Tests. Despite that, based on the information provided above how eligible am I for the UCs listed above? What are my chances of getting in? Any tips on how I can improve my chances into getting in to Berkeley? Also, does Berkeley offer a Law Undergraduate Program? Thanks for all your help!

Oh I forgot to mention that the 1st Place Award thing was only at District Level!

As I just posted elsewhere, UC does not look at freshman grades. So as far as they are concerned, you have no GPA at all yet. Keep up the good work in your next two years and I am sure you will have a shot. I have heard recently that UCLA is more interested in grades and test scores, and while Cal certainly is too, they look for ECs that show commitment and passion. It’s very good that you are thinking about all of this now, but don’t forget to have fun too!
