Chances for UC/CSU

Can anyone tell me which UC's/CSU's I could consider to be safeties, matches, and reaches? (I'm a rising senior)

Unweighted GPA: 3.52 (w/out P.E.)
Weighted GPA: 3.99 (w/out P.E.)
UC GPA: 3.6

SAT: 2040

of Honors: 4

of AP's: 3

of AP's to be taken senior year: 4

-Community Service: 200+ hours

-No Sports

Extras:

-member/leadship position in volunteer group
-president of club
-member of various clubs
-studied abroad for a little bit
-studying two languages
-13+ years of piano
-went to foreign language school on weekends for 5 years
-volunteer awards
-writing award
-recognized for literature (not an award exactly)
-college class on history (not on my transcript yet)

School is competitive (one of highest ranked in California...many people have GPA's over 4.0 and so do I when counting all of my classes)

California Resident (Central, if it matters at all)

Not ELC

HELP!

I wish my GPA could be a lot higher...but I guess that's what you get at an overly competitive school. I'm still hoping that I can at least get into some decent UC's

Thanks!

Have you seen these?

I’m a little confused (above), are those GPA’s the UC GPA or total GPA from high school (uncapped)?

Plus, a lot of those “4.00 and above” could be like…4.5 so how much of a chance do I have there? My total GPA (with all classes from my transcript) is a 4.03.

It probably doesn’t help, but I’m URM.

Those are UC GPA’s.Highest UC GPA (which is capped) possible is 4.4 I think. I think UCLA will also consider uncapped, so as high as 4.5 I think.

“It probably doesn’t help, but I’m URM.”

Nope; unless maybe there was also adversity you overcame. A few schools give a specific number of points for overcoming adversity.

Where you live effects admissions at impacted CSU’s.

Since my GPA makes me uncompetitive, will a higher SAT score help? And how do my EC’s look (…I should’ve done more).

You can enter three factors on the Stat-finder.

sorry…I hadn’t looked at it yet, but I am now so thank you! So do UC’s tend to care more about their own calculated GPA (for admissions not just eligibility) or the transcript as a whole (uncapped weighted)?

Hmmm…so what I get from these links is basically no chance anywhere but UCR/UCM…that’s not very comforting. My high school is ranked 10/10 and the UC GPA’s on that are…3.9…while I have a 3.6. That really sucks…so I guess I have another question then:

For the higher ranked high schools (9-10) is the average UC GPA so high because every student who was accepted beat out all the other kids from that school with lower GPA’s? (Hope that makes sense)…I guess what I’m trying to ask is: Do I have a significantly lower chance of getting in because my GPA is not as high as those of my competitive peers? Or does it actually help me because my high school is considered to be a lot harder than other public schools?

When I look at the admissions stats for the UC’s (I’m hoping for Irvine so I’ve really only checked that) many of the kids accepted from my school do have 3.7-3.9 unweighted gpa’s; however, around 2 of every 20 actually attend the school.

"So do UC’s tend to care more about their own calculated GPA (for admissions not just eligibility) or the transcript as a whole (uncapped weighted)? "

I think UC GPA, and the number of A-G classes completed. I don’t think they care much about anything but A-G classes, You can’t even enter them except in some “other” part of the application.

BTW, I think you will be ok for at least UC Santa Cruz. And at least a chance at Irvine, SB & D.It might help to do well on a few subject tests.

Thank you!

What about CSU’s? (I actually don’t really want to attend one though so I’m applying to 2-3 max).

I have taken a couple of SAT II’s; however, they aren’t really that great, just in the 600’s. I hope that retaking the SAT and doing a lot better will help offset my GPA a little.

"What about CSU’s? "

You should be fine at all but SDU and SLO . Those two have lower admit rates than some UC’s! Still, it could happen. Are you near SLO?

http://www.calstate.edu/sas/impaction-campus-info.shtml

I’m not too too far…but I’d really prefer not to go there. Unfortunately for me, my heart is set on a decent UC…it’s sad that Irvine is such a stretch because I’m somewhat partial to it (for whatever reason).

Are you in the SLO service area?

BTW, you could probably do better with privates.

HOw many AP classes/community classes can be used towards UC weighted GPA purposes?
Can a student take like 7 AP classes and use all of them to bump his/her GPA?

Thank you
