Im going to be a senior at Berkeley High, in Berkeley, CA this next year, and am wondering what my chances are of getting into some UC's or CSU's

GPA: 3.33 unweighted, 3.5 weighted
SAT: 1880, 620 English, 640 Math, 620 Writing
Sports: Varsity Captain of the local high-school aged rugby club
Extra-curriculars: Boatswain's mate of the Farallon 44 Seascout troop in Berkeley

Im looking at colleges such as UCD, UCSC, UCSB, Humboldt State, Chico State, and San Diego State. My goal is to play rugby at one of those schools.

What are my chances at getting into any of these?

You’re in at CSU Chico aand Humboldt for sure and probably also SDS. The UC’s, particularly UCSB and UCD, are reaches. I’m not sure Rugby gives you an edge because I think it is considered a club and not a sport. Maybe someone else can comment on this point because I don’t want to give you bad info regarding it.

Thanks! At this point im really open to a lot of schools, but I’d like to keep it in California. If it makes any difference, I’m probably going to study some kind of engineering

I think your chances are excellent for nearly all the CSUs except Cal Poly SLO which would be a reach. The only problem you could encounter is where you are applying from and your intended major. Some schools and majors like Engineering at San Jose State are impacted and if you did not graduate from a high school in their service area you have to meet considerably higher standards than applicants from their service area to be competitive.

As for UCs, I think you would be in at UC Merced and UC Riverside with UCSC a low reach and the other UCs high reaches.
