Chances for UC Davis

Hey all, sorry for throwing out another (albiet last minute) chance thread, but I was wondering if you could give me a bit of advice as I'm slightly worried at the moment (I know I should have been worried when I started High School and I should have taken it a bit more seriously, but the past is the past). Here it goes:

ACAD: 3.18 (I really slacked off second semester Sophomore and first semester Junior years, but I have always taken Honors/AP with the most rigorous load yearly [which isn't good for slacking off unfortunately])
Class Rank: 73 / 3XX (Around 325)
ACT: 28 (Highlights: 30 - Science, 10 - Essay, 29 - Reading)
Subjects: 580 English, 580 US History (Pretty terrible, I'm retaking my II's in December)

To try to make up for my massive failure, I took three fast-track classes at a local UC approved CC (Sierra College): English Composition (amazing course), American History, and Health with A's in all three and I am planning on taking either Enviro. Sci. or Intro to Poly Sci. in the Spring at Sierra as well.

While I don't really have any EC's that are directly related to school (besides EAOP, 1 year staff of newspaper and some other minor ones like FBLA and Debate[even though I didn't really show]), I have been extremely busy in personal pursuits. I've self taught myself basic PHP programming, advanced HTML, some C++ and C#, and have administrated and helped program numerous websites and once ran a technology review website with over 2K members. I am now working on a startup that is faring pretty decently and in addition to this I have been doing paid freelance webdesign, basic coding, transcription for individuals, and have somewhat dabbled in computer repair. I've also led various teams in projects and have overseen many individuals. On top of this, I absolutely eat up anything political or history related and consider myself very well "read up".

I've heard that to increase my chances I might want to apply for another major that might be less impacted that I am slightly interested in like Water Quality, Comparative Literature or even better English Composition. But how would I make my ECs work to the advantage of these, or does that even matter?

Anyway, sorry for the long post, but I'd greatly appreciate any insight you guys/gals could share with me, I'm sure you've all felt how I do at one point or another; it seems like a fantastic school with some really great people and I'd like to hopefully join the team.

By the way, if Davis is way out of my reach, do you think I could get into UCSC? Please don't disregard the rest of my message and respond just saying that I should go there instead, I really like Davis.

What's your SAT score?

1760, but I'm going with my ACT.

(bumped into the correct date sequence by a moderator, following relocation of the thread to this Chances forum)

Thanks paying3tuitions, I appreciate it. Updated information - What would be my chances at UCSC for Information Systems Mgmt, or is this impacted?

At UC Davis you apply to a college, not a major ( of course they may be related; "Water Quality, Comparative Literature or even better English Composition"...are they in different colleges? College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences
College of Biological Sciences, College of Engineering, College of Letters and Science ) ,and we were told it makes sense to give a second choice in a different SCHOOL.

Ah, thanks for the information. Because the College of Engineering seems to be so popular and competitive at Davis (ruling out Computer Science), do you think it would be a safe choice to go English as my main major and Water Quality as my second major to diversify? Or should I just do English/Poly. Sci like I was intending?

Do you know which colleges offer which major? Is Water quality in environmental sciences? As long as you cover two colleges, I think you optimize your chances for admission. (Not sure how difficult getting in school of engineering is). Of course being happy with what you study is important too.

To be honest, I think your chances are kind of low, because of your low gpa and low test scores.

UC Davis is a reach, but UCSC should be a match...I think....
Good luck!
