Chances for UC Engineering Majors?

I’m considering changing my major because of the engineering’s competitiveness in terms of admissions and curriculum. Could I get a chance for UCI, UCSD, UCSB, and UCD engineering programs?

Credentials:
Out-of-state - Las Vegas, NV
I go to a Career and Technical Academy (Very competitive)

  • I major in the entertainment engineering program at my school. (PLTW COURSES)
  • Top 10% of my class
    -3.7 unweighted GPA
    -4.5 weighted GPA
    -3.82 UC GPA Weighted Capped
    -4.25 UC GPA Weighted uncapped
    -Straight A’s freshmen year, all year
    -8 AP classes, rest are honors. Never took a regular class.
    Senior Courseload- AP Calc AB, AP Physics 2, AP Lit, AP Gov, French 3 H

-SAT cumulative: (1820)
Math: 580
Writing: 680
Reading: 560

-ACT Composite: 25
Math:31 English:27 Reading:21 Science: 21 English/Writing:25

Extracurriculars/leadership:

  • Vice president of school DECA Chapter 2013-2014, also a member for 3 years
  • Key Club member for 2 years, 120 hours of community service
  • SkillsUSA member for 2 years
  • Talent club, Judge, 2 years
  • School SAT club Tutor (Ironic because of my current SAT score…)
  • Volunteer at a hospital, 100 hours
  • 2 years varsity volleyball
  • Received President’s Academic Award in 8th grade (I don’t think this pertains, but it’s worth a try)
  • Study abroad program at UC Berkeley for Engineering during summer 2013

What engineering major are you specifically looking at?

Your UC GPA (capped) and ACT/SAT are below the 50th percentile for all schools listed and like you stated in your post, Engineering is competitive. You have good EC’s and course rigor. Outstanding essays may give you a boost to make some of these schools closer to a Match.

UCSD: Reach
UCI/UCSB/UCD: Low Reach/High Match

I applied for Mechanical engineering for most of these schools with Computer engineering as my alternate.
