Chances for UC Irvine please I will chance back

AP scores are in and all of my teachers have made the grade changes they promised for passing the Ap tests i took so what your about to see is what my college app will look like in november

Can you please tell me my chances at UC Davis?

Major- Undeclared (actually biology but i heard its really competitive)

SAT II: 640 Math 2 (retaking in Oct.) , 560 U.S History (cannot retake for obvious reasons)

ACT: 29 = 1980 SAT according to UC translation scale (should i retake?)

GPA: 3.55 UC GPA (Kinda Low I Know) 44 A-G Classes (i think i get extra points for taking more than 35?) and 11 AP/H Classes

Grade Progression-
10th grade- 3.20 UC GPA
11th Grade- 3.80 UC GPA
is this progression that UC's want to see? i only included 10+11 because that is when they start calculating GPA

So 10th+11th grade average come out to be 3.55 GPA

Rank: Top 10% out of 750+

Senior Courseload:
AP Biology
AP Calculus BC
AP English Lit.
Goverment/Econ.
Drama 2 or Marine Biology (Non AP/H)
Sport

Essays: (i kind of integrated the 3 topics below into my two essays)
1. when i was a freshman my parents got in an accident and i had to start taking care of my whole family. what i mean is that my chores got tripled, i needed to help my parents move through the house, and i had to walk my bro to school before i went. My school and his school are in 2 opposte directions.
2. how my parents accident coupled with my volunteering at the hospital and retirement has changed my outlook on life and how i found my true calling which is medicine because God has blessed me with intelligence and lots of empathy towards the needy and weak.
3. i also included in my essay a great quote from one of a famous surgeon (i am drawing a blank on his name right now) but it said " i was never the smartest in med school, but what i lacked in ability i made up with through discipline." i think this quote really applies to me and i explained why.

Hook: Family Accident as mentioned in Personal Statement

Location: CA- Instate advantage?

High School Type: Program Improvement and Tier 4 (on the 1-10 API scale) dont i get a boost for attending a school whose is low performing?

Ethnicity: White (more Specifically Mideastern but according to US Census form Mideastern is considered White)

Gender: Male

Extracurriculars:
Volunteer:
1. 100 hr. at local hospital

Clubs/Sports:
1. 4 year NHS (Vice President 2010)

Work:
1. Paid Tutor at my High School

biology at UCI is different than it is at UCD.

Lots of bio majors, and many drop after first year…

In terms of chances of getting in, it doesn’t seem like a match due to your GPA, average UC GPA at UCI is 4.02. Your ACT score is fine, a bit above avg, but retake it if you think you can do even better.

Try to get those SAT II’s up.

Upward trend is good to have… but both GPA’s for 10-11th are below average.

Your other things look fine. Just get those test scores up, because that is what you have under your control now.

junshik: thats what i was expecting but what do you think i should raise my ACt to? 30? 31?

and as for my subject tests the only one i can retake is Math 2 so what should I aim for when i retake it?

Even raising the ACT to 30 will go a long way, that’s what 2040 SAT equivalent?
I would aim for 31-32 though.

I would aim for 700+ on the Math II, but a 670+ should be satisfactory I think…

http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/pdf/uci_chart.pdf</a></p>

well according to these admission stats for 2009 anyone who had a 31+ has a 80%+ chance of acceptance. These stats are obiviosuly still valid because the fall 2010 admit rate only went up this year (42% to 45%)

and yes 30 ACT= 2040, 31=2100, 32= 2160

but i dont know i mean 1-2 point improvement is reasonable to pursue but 3+ pts improvement seems a little out of reach

VP at NHS? How the hell did you get that w/o a good GPA =0. And is the GPA weighted or unweighted?

First of all i hope you arent trying to disrespect me by asking this question…

anyways 3.55 GPA is the “special UC” GPA which on counts up to 4 AP/H classes which kinda screwed me cause a had a bad sopomore year.

My weighted GPA with all AP/H classes is a 4.1

it also helps if you are an athlete, have a high GPA, and are very social

Oh, just thought you couldn’t get into NHS without a good GPA. But other than that, you got a pretty good chance, but yeah, only your GPA brings you down. Nonetheless, I got worse stats than you on the most part and got in, so keep trying. ACT again for sure.

would you mind posting your stats or messaging me your stats just to see how i compare?

as for the ACT what score should i aim for?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/795883-chances-ucs.html</a></p>

fyi, ACT 29 is equivalent to 1920. at least that was it when i applied.

aishxashley: the UC’s use their own translation scale

http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/paths_to_adm/freshman/scholarship_reqs.html</a></p>

This scale that will be used until the end of next year’s admission cycle

bump 10 char

yeah im thinking this thread is just about dead

What do you think???

UC GPA (max of 8 honors points): 3.63
Unweighted GPA: 3.26
SAT: 1860
ACT: 31
SAT II Math 2: 610
SAT II Chemistry: 650
SAT II US History: 570

of AP’s Taken: 10 (13 offered)

Volunteer Hours: 200 total

EC’s:
President and founder of Cricket Club
Publicist of MUN
Secretary of Science Olympiad
Technology Coordinator for National Honor Society
CSF
Treasurer of Ping Pong Club
Secretary of INTERACT Club
Secretary of Project FitNation
Web Designer of Make-A-Wish Club
Historian of CASA Club
90 service hours for Indian Cultural Organization
50 service hours for Orange County Food Bank
60 service hours for AYSO Referee
Organized Basketball for 2 years (9th and 10th Grade)

Although your GPA is below average, your ACT score is strong, and with your many EC’s, I think you will have a decent shot, jayd2410.

unfortunately, jayd2410, it might be kind of tough.

http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/pdf/uci_chart.pdf</a></p>

It looks like only 12.4% of those with a 3.3 to 3.69 got in last year, though you’re on the upper end of that range. Your act score is pretty good, but it seems like the UC’s usually put highest priority on gpa.
