~~~~My sophomore year I had a big decline in grades because of a long lasting relationship problem with a new girlfriend and also I lost a best friend that year. Can I leave a note with my Application or should I just let it be since my grades are pretty high anyways.
~~~Will my grades get reflected on a upward grade trend?

it really depends on how competitive your high school is...but honestly, i think you've a fair shot at all of them as i've known people with all sorts of GPAs and SAT scores who've gotten in to all of them..

Anyone else and can anyone answer my two questions?

leave a short note about losing your friend, skip the gf part, they couldn't care less, that's your problem.
ucb/la - reach as in probably not. your sat is ok, but your gpa wont get you in for sure. they don't really care about ec's (maybe they count for 15% of your app)

if ucsc is your second choice, then go there. i'd say you're in.

but since one app works for all the uc's, if you want to spend the extra $120, go for ucb and la. i'm going to predict that you'll end up at sc (if you choose to go there). don't worry, the girls are hotter there.

PleaseGetmeinaUC:

UCB/UCLA: Slight Reach
UCD/UCSB: Safe Match
UCSC: Safety

UCB/UCLA: Match to Slight Reach
UCD/UCSB: Safe Match to Match
UCSC: Safety

Obviously close to flopsy's estimates. He's usually the expert on the UCs.
