Ok, first things first, UC’s only really care about your sophomore and junior years as far as GPAs go. There is a way to calculate this as well because UC’s accept your weighted SO LONG THAT you only count 8 semesters of those courses toward your GPA. For example, lets say that sophomore and junior year combined, you had a total of 7 AP/Honor classes (this is mine so I’m gonna use it as an example). That means that you have a total of 14 semesters of AP/Honors grades that give you an extra point per grade. HOWEVER, you UC’s only take 8 of the available AP/Honors classes that you took, so only 8/14 semesters are giving you extra points for your GPA. So, an easy way to calculate this would be add all of the points that you got through all of your classes according to the grade that you got in those classes NOT counting an extra point per AP/Honors class. Then just add 8 at the end and divide by your total amount of classes. I hope this helped. I know a good deal about UC admissions so if you can put that GPA here then I might be able to help chance you :)

Ok sounds good! That gpa came out as a 3.86 with the 8point weight! How’s that looking for me?

Its also very impressive that you published a/some book(s). Anywhere you apply will like to see that and your EC’s are good. Just pick up your SAT. You have 3 more chances, October, November, and December. And you’re probably like “But applications are due by November 30th!”. Well, last year, UC’s took the December SAT and will most likely this year as well. Just make sure that you haven’t taken it more than three times and make sure you get some subject tests in there. It depends on what you want to major in, and UC’s technically cannot deny someone because they haven’t taken subject tests, however, you will not get into the major you want to if it requires subject tests. For instance, I am applying to Berkeley, Irvine, and San Diego for computer science major. Well, for that I need to take the Math II test which I will take in November. But because I have only taken one SAT, I can still take two more (October & December) without having the problem of taking more than three SAT’s.

Well, UC Berkeley’s average GPA is 4.4. So I don’t think you will have a shot there. San Diego’s is around 4.1-4.3 so your still out. USC and UCLA I highly doubt as well. BUT don’t count yourself out of the running, your EC’s are excellent (especially the books) and A LOT of the decision process is made from your personal statement. UC’s base a lot of this off of the personal statement because they can’t tell from a transcript and a couple of test scores what kind of person you are. If you look at the topics for the personal statements and get writing to them, you should have an excellent chance to get opinions on them and comments that can otherwise help you. They want the personal statement to be, well, personal, they want to read what you have to say about yourself. Express yourself and don’t say just what they want to hear. Also, out-of-state is a plus, and depending on your race (because minorities other than Asian have a much higher chance at UC’s).

Wow 8 points! I think ur gpa should be okay although I don’t know know ur uc gpa. Make ur say higher and yes Nickolai is right get some subject tests too. Make ur test stronger and get a good personal statement. Chance me back guys. Killswitchengage. Good luck. U can make 4 or 5 lower Uc’s. So good luck once again.

Yeah I thought Berkeley and San Diego would be reaches, and probably more so considering my race is Pakistani(Asian)… But I really appreciate your input, thank you. I haven’t really decided on a major yet, I should probably get that down though. It’ll either be biology or writing oriented though (probably writing). So am I looking good for UCSB and UCR? And I’ll probably take the SAT again with hopefully a 2000. I took the ACT again today and it should be closer to a 30/31 this time.

Santa Barbara is a party school haha but look into Irvine or like Davis as well. I mean Riverside is one of the lower UC’s and I don’t think you’ll have a huge problem applying to Irvine and Davis or Riverside.

Santa Barbara may be a party school but its definitely better than UGA which is my only in-state alternate hahaha. I wouldn’t necessarily mind that but I’ve got my heart set on a school in California. I’ll look into Irvine and Davis as well, thanks Nikolai you’ve been a great help!!!

No problem, I am going through the same stress and nervousness that you are right now as well. I guess spending a lot of researching the admissions process and mostly finding a place to set my sights to is adding a lot to my stress so I find some relief helping others learn about the processes and their overall chances. But in any light, good luck applying wherever you apply to :D

Keep in mind that usually only AP’s, not honors, get weighted out of state, “race” shouldn’t matter but “adversity” might, and dont forget the arts requirement.

Also, USC is not a UC, so perhaps you are considering other California privates?

USC was the only California private I had looked into, but which one of the UC’s seem like matches for me? After researching some more, I would love to go to UCSB and attempt to get into their College for Creative Studies under the Literature major. Any feedback on that would be fantastic :)

i have a 3.2 uc gpa and a 24 act. what if any UC can i get into

i say you have a good chance at a majority of your schools btw
