Chances for UCD?

copied and pasted from ucr board with minor fixes
UC GPA: 3.71
ACT: 33 (English:34, Math:34, Reading:28, Science:35) ended up being my highest score

AP/HONORS: AP Physics B, AP Comp Sci A (4), AP English Composition (2 hahaha), Honors 10th grade english, Honors Computer Science C++, Honors Pre Calc, Honors Physics.
*I got a “C” first semester for physics and tried to make it up by self studying the AP Physics B exam which I scored a 5. Hopefully admissions will see through that grade…

SAT IIs:
Math II: 780
Physics: 760

ECs:
-junior varsity Softball (freshman and sophomore year)
-president of Video Games Club (sophomore and junior year. Will be pres again senior year)
-Robots/Engineering Club (junior year but I quit softball to devote my time to this club)
-Bible Club (freshman, sophomore, and junior)
-NHS (1 year)

Do I have a shot even with that fluke in physics? I got a B second semester because I just didn’t really “click” with the teacher in general.

I also attend a very competitive public school in California. It’s in the top five in the state.

Senior Schedule:
AP Calc BC
AP Stats
AP Chem
Honors Comp Sci Python
gov/econ
english 4

For essay #1 I talked about how becoming a comedian and the comedy club I first went to in the beginning shaped me to become more confident and helped my self esteem. I talked about problems in school like bullying, and how stand up helped me overcome challenges both in home and school.
For essay #2 I talked about FRC and my experience being a robotics programmer. I talked a lot about how much I love problem solving and a tid bit of how I used concepts from Discrete Math class (I took two math classes junior year) then applied them to the real world of programming. I tried to show that I matured as a problem solver.

How much does ucd look into essays?

I applied as a math major for all UCs except Merced which I applied for computer engineering.

I really, really like UCD for their applied math program.

Would it matter if I’m Hispanic by the way?

I personally don’t think I have a good chance at all for UCD but it’s worth the shot. Thanks y’all.

I can’t speak from experience (applied this fall as well), but you look extremely qualified to me. And being Hispanic will almost certainly factor into their decision. IMHO, you could probably get into a better UC campus than Davis. Best of luck!

@hrstrnbrg thanks for the reply friend. I have been told that Davis is a reach for me by my school counselor but I guess we’ll have to wait and see. Best of luck to you too.

Being hispanic can’t factor into their decision. Fortunately, you look well qualified anyhow. Your GPA is a little light but, i think your test scores, ECs,etc more than compensate for that.

Good luck.
