My D was admitted to Pomona ED1 for the Class of 2019. She was also a debater. I think you look competitive for all these schools. For Pomona, have you been able to visit? Last year on the Common App there was a place to list your contacts, so be prepared for that. There were spots for up to 3 contacts, and my D was able to list a campus visit, an interview (and she listed the name of her interviewer) and a meeting with the local Pomona rep (and D listed the name of the local rep). I do think it helps if your local rep (whoever is assigned to IN) knows who you are.
My guesses:
UChicago EA: 16% (low reach)
Swarthmore: 20% (low reach)
Pomona ED: 22% (low reach)
CMC: 22% (low reach)
Haverford: 30% (high match)
Wellesley: 30% (high match)
Your stats are above-average at each school, but you lack an obvious hook.
I think that you need to look for some matches and a safety.
Matches might include some good state schools OOS. But you have quality schools IU and Purdue in state, so umless you have a hot hair for Berkeley or Michigan, you have plenty of quality at home, for half the price.
Private true matches might include schools like Boston College, Tulane, Wake Forest, Case Western, U of Rochester, NYU, Macalester, Oberlin, Kenyon, Richmond, Holy Cross, Trinity, St. Olaf and Lafayette. Those are all very good.
Definitions:
Reach: 5-15% chance
Low Reach: 15-25% chance
High Match: 25-40% chance
Match: 40-60% chance
@Corinthian What does the list of contacts represent?
It’s a drop down menu on the Pomona member page of the CA. It’s a place for you to list your contacts with Pomona. As I recall there were options including probably the website but also interviews, campus visits, and school visits by the Pomona rep. I know my D listed 3 contacts and listed the names of her campus interviewer and the rep who did the school visit. If you look at the CDS for Pomona it says it doesn’t count demonstrated interest, but I think the fact that they have this section on the application shows that they do in a sense count demonstrated interest.
