I've logged over 375 hours of community service as well as work as a tutor at my school.

My Essays: (I wrote too much for all of them but did not catch the error until after I already submitted the application.)
My first essay was about why I wanted to attend the school. I started with how I discovered I wanted to be a lawyer and then transitioned into why I think UChicago would be the best school for me. It was only supposed to be one to two paragraphs, but mine ended up being roughly two and a half pages.
My second essay: I was supposed to write about favorites. I wrote a two and a half page essay about my favorite TV show, Lost. Again, I was only supposed to write one to two paragraphs.
The extended essay: I chose the prompt, "Don't write about reverse psychology." My essay talked about how a friend used reverse psychology on me to encourage me to try out for the jazz band, despite never playing the trumpet before. They said one to two pages; I gave them three. Also, I forgot to label which prompt I was addressing, which I was told to do.

So, what do you think my chances are? The thing I am most worried about are my essays being way too long, but feel free to tell me if anything else looks weak.

Thank you all so much!

Edit: I also applied to Princeton, Harvard, Brown, Northwestern, WashU, Rice, and Carnegie Mellon, if anyone would like to predict my chances for these schools.

I’d say your in, because you’re nearly perfect gpa-wise, and you also have impressive community service and you started a club. Please chance me–http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1266989-will-i-get-rejected-cothc-holy-cross.html

GREAT CHANCE! UoC is one of the most academically driven universities in terms of admissions, and you have significant achievement in that area…with great EC’s as well.

Even though I didn’t follow instructions for the essays?

I can’t say much about that…I have no idea. Not following instructions gives colleges easy rejections, but I find you app fairly unique, so I don’t know if that offset your mistake.

Hmm, ok. I e-mailed my admissions officer and tried to rectify things as well as explain that Chicago is my number one.

Another question: Will they even read my essays if they see that they’re too long?

I just received an e-mail from my UChicago admissions counselor. Here it is:

Thank you for contacting us regarding your application. Please do not worry about the word limit on your essays- we do not have a strict word limit policy since we would like your application to include all of the information necessary for the essays to be complete. I will also include your message as a part of your application so that other counselors may know about your interest in UChicago.

Yay! That makes me feel much better.

Good chances for UChicago given that your situation has been rectified.

Amazing! I do not see any reason for why they will reject you n-n
