I’ve read that the Business Admin program is very impacted. What are my chances of getting in, and is it realistic to get my hopes up?
Thanks so much!
Acceptance rate for Bus Admin is around 11.8% so very competitive. You look like a qualified applicant and it is worth your time applying but beyond that it would be very hard to predict since much will depend upon the qualifications of the other applicants you will be competing against.
Good Luck.
thanks for your response! i read in a previous post by you that “uci admits you first, then places you in your major” or or something along the lines of that. if i’m not accepted into the business admin program, would you say i have a good chance of getting in undeclared? would stellar personal statements push me over the edge? @Gumbymom
If not admitted to Bus Admin, yes you would have a good chance at undeclared. The issue with undeclared is that it may be difficult to change majors later. You might want to consider an alternate major other than undeclared.
business econ is related enough, but my ultimate goal would be bus admin, which is better for my job prospects + would prepare me better for the cpa exam as well. is it harder to switch between two majors as opposed to from undeclared to a specific major? @Gumbymom
Here is the requirements for Business Admin change of major. If there is an overlap of classes between Bus Econ and Bus Admin, it might be helpful to consider Bus Econ as an alternate. Some UC’s will give registration priority for business classes to declared business majors first and then if there is room, will allow other students to enroll. I am not sure if UCI does registration this way, but several other UC’s do.

thank you so much! i’ll check if there’s an overlap and then call to ask about the specifics about transferring. you also replied to my slo thread about my chances there, and with that reassurance i got the motivation to research more about slo. i actually visited this weekend and decided it wasn’t for me, and i’m glad i got that far in getting to know the school. i really do appreciate the help!
also @Gumbymom , quick question! i know this is a question that’s been asked to death, but does the uc system and esp. uci look at first semester senior year grades? the business website says that “In the event that the number of students who elect Business Administration as a major exceeds the number of positions available, applicants may be subject to screening beyond minimum University of California admissions requirements.”
would this mean checking up on senior year grades? i’m taking five aps and i’m positive that i can get straight a’s first semester.
UCI will only ask for Senior grades if you are a borderline applicant and you receive a supplement in Jan/Feb. Senior grades will be used to maintain your provisional admission if accepted.
In regards to the statement of additional UC requirements, I cannot say what they will require but they could ask for Mid-year grades, letters of recommendations etc…
