I am 17 years old, transferring from Orange Coast College.

I will have 77 units done by the end of Spring.

Major: Economics
TAP Certified
GPA: 3.83
Essays: Pretty Strong
ECs: President of Amnesty International, Treasurer of Interclub Council, Vice President of South Asian Cultural Society, Secretary of MSA

All prereqs done except for cal 2 which I'm taking right now.

You have a good shot but economics is never a guarantee. You are ahead of most of the pack since the average GPA for UCLA of applicants is 3.46 for econ and you're barely above the average for admits which is 3.82.

I'd say you're probably in. You have a good GPA and solid soft factors (oxymoron much?).

And why do you have so many units?

I don't think your age will be a plus if that's what you were hoping for.

Assuming none of the units were taken at a 4 year university, it doesn't really matter how many units he has. I personally know one person who applied and got into Berk/LA with almost 150 semester units. In general, having excess units isn't a problem if you accumulated them at one CC.

adinek I'd say you are pretty much in. Although it's true your GPA is around the average for LA, you have the TAP. Furthermore, a 3.83 is more than enough for Berkeley's Econ.

I wouldn't sweat it man. And applying as a 17 yr old is awesome, I'm in the same boat; I'm sure we'll both do fine.

if im not mistaken, if you are 17 and still attend a high school, they wont consider you as a transfer student. i remember a description on the application last year (for freshmen) that states that.

About the units: I had trouble deciding my major. =(

I'm a girl btw. =)

I have another question: I had to change my schedule around because I wasn't able to get into some of the class that I wanted to take, so I just sent Berkeley my updated schedule like on Saturday. Would that jeopardize my chances in anyway?

Me too. Damn, I don't feel special anymore. :( Well I guess CC is a misrepresentative sample of the amount of people in CA who realize they can leave HS two (or two-and-a-half) years earlier.

I don't think so. And I hope not because I had to do that as well. I mean, how can they not expect schedules to change within the first two weeks of school? It's inevitable in many cases.
