UCLA - If you have tap its a match, without it reach-match
UCI- Match

is your pre-req going to be done for UCLA? (3classes)

UCI is a match and if you have completed major prerequisites for UCLA then that would also be a match to.

Yes, the prereqs for sociology majors is a sociology class, calc, and statistics. I will have all three of them done by the end of spring.

actually i wanted to add that, i will finish the calculus course in summer 2008. not in spring. i have applied to transfer for fall 2008, so do you think that taking a prereq course in the summer might affect my admission?

It's better to get prereqs done before applying - certainly would help, but if it is a non-impacted major, which I think sociology is - then I see no problem with taking calculus in the summer of '08.

Keep in mind, unless you're great at math I wouldn't take calculus in the summer, as for any hard class. It goes much faster, and you need to be able to grab concepts faster - which is hard for a lot of people in Calculus.

well i already am taking 7 classes in the spring semester, so i have no choice but to take it in summer cuz i dont think i can handle 8 classes.

^^ maybe from those 7 other classes take 2 of those in summer instead and take calc in the spring. for sure i know ucla wants you to finish your prereq by spring instead of summer

subzero- if you don't finish the pre-req by spring your 100% going to get rejected from UCLA.. ( I know because I was soc major last yr and applied)

sociology @ ucla is most definitely impacted.

torrance did you apply again this year? is there a rule where you have to apply to a different major the second time you apply?

yah! i applied for fall 07 and now fall08...
I got rejected by UCLA and Cal and accepted as SD,Irvine..
The main reason that I got rejected was because I didn't finish my pre-req and I was an international student...
Fortunately, I recently got my greencard(permenent resident). Therefore, I am pretty confident! Also, there is no rule for switching majors! I just thought anthro suits me better!

well. i decided that i am going to change to geography major. because i will not be able to finish calculus by spring. i think they'll let me change right? ive heard of others doing it, so im gonna try calling them tomorrow. also change my first personal statement since it was a lot about the sociology major.

I know that you could change your major within certain period(I don't know the exact date) But I don't know if you could change your essay....

Well, the first question on the personal statement was, what is your intended major. And so my essay was mainly about that, and I am pretty sure many other people's were too. So then how can they not allow personal statements changes too if they allow major changes?

And also, you guys didnt tell me about UCI. What if I didnt finish one prereq in my sociology major over there?

i think you are still in even without finishing 1 pre req for uci.

subzero- THat is my opinion/what I heard previously..
Also, I applied to UCI soc major last year and didn't finish 2 pre-req still got in...

bumppppppppp...

just call and ask the campus directly.
