Personal Statement
I am planning on writing about my brother who has a disability and how it has increased my responsibility. It has made me more responsible because the entire family has to take care of and watch him.

That's pretty much it! I thank you if you read the whole thing and chanced me! Please let me know if I can improve anything!

You seem to be on track, just a couple things I noticed:

What were you doing for ECs freshman year? Could potentially detract, though no point worrying about it now. Won’t hurt too much.

Your personal statement… First of all there are two, so you should be thinking about two different topics (the prompts are different you can probably find them online somewhere). Secondly, unlike common app essays, UC doesn’t like touching stories about who you are as a person… (sorry) They want more details about your accomplishments. It’s somewhat difficult to explain, but this should help you: [url=<a href=“http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zo6NI4wHf4&feature=related]Applying”>Applying to UC: The Personal Statement 2007 - YouTube]Applying to UC: The Personal Statement 2007 - YouTube/url.

For example, I wrote one of mine on the progression and development of a trait I have and one on the development of an interest, integrating accomplishments, achievements, etc. Basically, watch that video.

Your essay topic sounds good for a common app essay though.

Hope I helped.

I also am concerned about your EC’s. You could volunteer a bit more, and you could list helping your brother as an EC. For more info on what counts as an EC: [Extracurricular Activities - What Counts as an Extracurricular Activity?](<a href=“Extracurricular Activities for College Admissions”>Extracurricular Activities for College Admissions)
