I am the best clarinet player in my school, earning 1st chair sophomore, junior, and senior year. I participate in youth orchestras, all-county honor band, all-state and various solo ensemble festivals. I have won the solo competition for the all-county honor band my junior year. At school I was President and Founder of the Research Club, and Activities Director for NHS, where I organized fundraisers and events. My science fair project qualified for the California State Science Fair. I played Varsity #1 Singles ever since 10th grade. I have competed in the State and National Leadership Conferences for various FBLA events also. I also tutored Math for 2 years at the Academic Center in my school.

wait will declaring computer science as a major affect my chances??

I’d say that most Ivies are a reach but attainable with a bit more EC and a maintenance of current grades. I think, aside from Ivy level colleges, you should be able to get into most colleges. Keep up what your doing. Kicking myself for not taking harder classes. Also, a good fit may be MSOE or one such similar if you are interested in engineering. I’m going to a camp at MSOE This summer

I doubt you’ll have any problems whatsoever with getting into most of the UCs. Make sure letters of recs are solid and you have a strong essay and, bingo

A few of my closets friends got accepted into UCLA and UCB with grades and SAT scores lower than yours. The only thing that I would recommend would be that you pick a major that interests you the most, and do something over the summer (such as an internship) that shows your interest in that particular field. From what i have gathered from my friends that have gotten into Ivy’s and schools like Duke, they all had a clear vision of what they wanted to do, and they stuck to classes and ec’s that would show that. Your grades are fine, what I would worry about if I were you, would be to figure out how to tie in your passion for whatever major into your ec’s and your essay/ personal statement. And by the way heads up, but if your an asian try not to apply for financial aid unless you really have to for schools like Duke. UC’s would probably be more lenient though. Good Luck!!

All the UCs would be low matches and matches for you. Assuming you want to stay in California, try these private schools:
USC
Stanford
Caltech
Stanford and Caltech would be reaches for you though, but it’s still worth a shot
