Some have told me that applying to California or UCs from New England can help you because not many people apply there, but I’m not sure if that’s true, I know that financially applying to UCs out of state isn’t great.
I applied to UCLA and UCSB and also USD, do I have any chance for these schools?
Also, if you wouldn’t mind/have time I also have applied to
URI (safety)
Temple U (accepted with Dean’s scholarship)
Northeastern (Reach/high match)
BC (deferred)
American University (High match/match)
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Reach)
Tufts (Reach)
Simmons (Safety)
Do I have a chance at any of my reach schools? I would really like to get into at least one.
Also have taken 6 APS total
Senior year courseload:
AP English Literature, AP Art History, AP Environmental, Psychology of Crime, Forensic Science (on VHS), Regular Calc, got a 4.3 first quarter, we do quarters at my school in addition to semesters, sort of weird I know
You have a good shot at UCSB being OOS you should have applied to UCSC and UCR, i think you can still take the January SAT and it can still be used I think if you can get your SAT up to 2000 or your ACT up to a 30 it’ll really help your chances this is assuming you didnt submit your US History Subject score. Also tell us how many AP’s you took in 10th and 11th
I took AP World History Sophomore year, and AP Psychology and AP Human Geography my junior year. Sadly, my school only offers 7 APS and they don’t even offer AP Language, which I definitely would have taken instead of English 11 Honors if I had the chance
In general, I would say my school is not competitive at all. Most students take regular classes and no APs, and I’ve heard someone say that “A 1500 definitely isn’t the average, it’s so hard to get!” I didn’t realize how competitive some candidates were until I got onto this website, unfortunately.
The number of AP’s offered by your school will not impact your chances, but you want to take the most rigorous courses available at your HS.
UC’s only use 10-11th grades from the a-g course requirements to calculate their GPA. You get extra honors points for AP/IB or DE courses as an OOS applicant. OOS honors courses are not recognized by the UC’s. Here is a UC GPA calculator to help you calculate your UC GPA: http://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
As an OOS applicant, you also need to make sure you took 1 year of a Visual or Performing art class (required by UC’s).
UCLA: Reach
UCD/UCSB: High Match/Low Reach
(High Match if UC GPA is 4.0+ Low Reach if less than 4.0)
Test scores on the low side as an OOS applicant for the UC’s.
Also can you afford the costs of the UC’s if you are accepted? $55K/year with no financial aid.
