Chances please for:
-UCLA
-UCB
-UCSD
(I know those 3 are all mid-high reaches, but do I stand any chance?)
-UC Davis
-UCSB
-UC Irvine
-Cal Poly San Luis Obispo

Nice test scores, but your GPA is just terrible in the UC’s POV. Class rank isn’t good and your E.C.'s aren’t that great. You should be okay for middle tier UC’s but SD LA and CAL will all be reaches. Try to write good personal statements and you may have a chance at these 3 … stranger things have happened. Good luck!

Also, for SLO, do you plan to major in engineering? You have a pretty good chance if so, and are a shoe-in in all their other programs.

Cal Poly College of Engineering Freshman 2010 Admission Profile:

Number Applied:9,434
Number Accepted: 3,505
Acceptance rate: 37%
Avg. GPA: 4.01
Avg. ACT: 31
Avg. SAT (CR+M only): 1368 out of 1600

If you are doing engineering, it will be a major toss up. You are solidly below Cal Poly’s average GPA, but luckily you have a decent ACT score. So getting admitted is possible, but definitely not a shoe-in.

For all other majors at SLO, you have a stronger chance but still no guarantee because

Average GPA: 3.92
Avg ACT: 29
Avg SAT (M+CR only): 1298 out of 1600

You are still solidly below the average GPA hence it complicates things.

<a href=“Cal Poly Admissions”>Cal Poly Admissions;

CAL = High Reach
UCLA = Reach

For the mid-tier UCs, it is similar to Cal Poly because they all have similar admission requirements.

Good luck!

i’ve chanced you once before in one of your other threads, but a couple things seemed to change so i’ll adjust accordingly.

UCLA - high reach
UCB - high reach
UCSD - reach/low reach
UC Davis - high match
UCSB - match
UC Irvine - match
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo - match/low match

if you are really that worried about your acceptance, you should consider adding UCSC, privates to your list, or, in general, more safeties. california public schools aren’t as forgiving for low GPAs compared to privates, unfortunately.

How can UCD be tougher to get into than UCSB and UCI? They have practically the same admission profile.

in that case, you could also ask why UCSD is more selective than UCD even though their admission profiles are almost the same disregarding the selection percent. that is why i can’t wait until the 2011 or 2012 statfinder to come out.

Your GPA will really kill you in admissions. You should center your essays on why it’s so low.

UCLA - high reach
UCB - reach
UCSD - reach
UC Davis - match
UCSB - match
UC Irvine - low match
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo - match

Poor chance because of your low UC GPA, but good luck anyway.

Honestly you are fine as is. To be honest, UC’s have lower expectations for California students, and thus much of your chances here, which have been from out-of-state ones, don’t necessarily factor in your situation. For one, the idea of a UC system is to retain educationally talented people in California; thus, you, because of your residency in California, have a higher chance of acceptance. Also, your SAT scores, at least for UC’s, outweigh a lower GPA (Disclaimer: the UC GPA is just a record of your eligibility; it is not a factor in your competitive standing while applying.) On top of this, your SAT scores make you eligible for the UC system to reserve a spot for you at an another UC if you are rejected at one of them. Thus:

All scores mentioned: Targets.

Evidence: Many of my friends who graduated last year were accepted to UCLA with a 2000 and 3.5 GPA.

(P.S. UC’s don’t superscore. Privates usually do.)

@Kieran thank you. very helpful.

@Fyodor that’s pretty much what I’m banking on. Hopefully some look over my low GPA (though very strong rigor) and put a little more stock in my SAT/ACT and ECs/work experience

Up please!

Also, any chances for Georgia Tech?

Take it to the top!

Can I send my sat scores after I do the test?

^ Not relevant? haha.
