Applied to all UC's except for UCLA and UCB. I know my stats aren't top notch so I guess my chances aren't to good for the top tier UCs. But could you still chance me for UCD,UCI,UCSB,UCSC,UCM,UCR? I know for sure I'm not getting into UCSD now lol. My number one school is UCD but I realized my chances are extremely slim.

-Dedicated Volunteer Service from Soup Kitchen (Spent almost the entire summer helping cook food for low income)

Personal Statement #1
-Talked about how my parents stepped out of being low income, and how I want to succeed in my goals while also helping those in need. (Tied it to volunteering with Soup Kitchen) I'd say I did medium to good.

Personal Statement #2
-Talked about how my ultimate goal is to become a veterinarian. (Tied to my volunteering experience with Animal Rescue). I'd say this is good to great (according to my english teacher). Emphasized how I wanted my life to be geared towards helping save abused animals.

Factors?
-Moved to a different city after 9th grade, didn't talk about this as I felt it really wasn't a significant hardship. Maintained similar/better grades upon the transferring year.
-1st generation to be born in US and to attend college.

Asian and low SAT is not good. You have little chance at any of the UC’s, if any, UCSB is the only one that will consider you. Hey, maybe your statements may leave them shedding a tear and sending you an acceptance letter!

You said UCSB would be the only one that would consider me when UCM/UCR/UCSC averages are lower than UCSB? Not sure if your joking or not but hey, thanks for the response!

I am in 10th grade and I was wondering what are my chances of getting into a UC such as UCSD UCSB UCD UCB and my chances of getting into a CSU such as Cal Poly SLO and San Diego State University?

FRESHMAN(end of year grade): english…A
algebra1…C
PE…A
French1…B
Art…A
Earth/phs science…A(or B)
(i dont remember my first semester gpa for 9th grade but i got between a 2.5 and 3.0 GPA)

SOPHMORE(first semester grade):
English…D
Computer Apps…A
Honors Biology…B
World Cultures…A
Geometry…D
French 2…B
Extra Curriculars: Key Club (community service club) and i have so far 6-8 hours
(the semester gpa was 2.67)

I wondering if i were to raise my GPA to a 3.6 or higher by the end of the school year if i would still be able to get into a UC or Cal Poly (CSU) for mechanical or aerospace engineering. i have high doubts of being able to get into a UC and CSU because i am very conserned about my first semester of 10th grade and 9th grade. I will be looking forward to take all the ap and honors classes i can take for 11th grade if this will help.

i know right but what if i were to take all the honors and ap classes i can take next year and get a gpa of 3.8+ for both semesters what do you think my chances are. i know im not the kind of student that gets “D” grades but it happened and i feel horrible=(do you think i should go to summer school to raise up the grades?

@zamrock If your getting D’s in regular classes, I’m not sure if you can handle AP classes. And UCs don’t accept D’s so you have to retake those classes to eligible.

Does anyone have any insight on my chances?

UC is very formula numbers based. It barely considers extracurriculars, and even then they will not be crucial to your decision.
You have a shot at possibly UC Merced, Irvine, and Santa Cruz. The rest are a HUGE stretch, especially UCB, UCLA, UCSD.
I can only wish you good luck!

UCs do look at extra-curricular activities and such, but their main focus is on GPA and standardized test scores. This doesn’t mean that you can’t beat out someone who scores higher and has a higher grade point average than you do.

Don’t listen to drac-- I think you definitely have good shots at merced and riverside! a uc doesn’t always guarantee a good education though. apply broadly :)

ithe only reason why i got two "D"s was because i wasnt paying attention to my grades during the first quater and in tenth grade i got an A in english in ninth grade…do you think ill be able to raise them up to a B in summer school?

might as well try. Better to attempt to fix things than to leave them as is and let the chips fall where they may.
Good luck! UCM UCR and UCI for sure. Don’t give up hope on the others just yet either.
