Does anybody have any take on my chances?
I’ll chance back.
Also I’m class of 2018, so a rising senior.
Also, do you guys think that Georgetown could be possible? I’m thinking it’s a reach.
Assuming UF is in-state and using your SAT score:
Georgetown - Reach (5-15% chance)
UNC (OOS), W&L - Low reach (15-25%)
Davidson, Wake - High match (25-40%)
UF (in-state) - Low match (60-~90%)
You might want to add a couple of true matches – LACs slightly less selective than Davidson (maybe ranked 25-50) or universities slightly less selective than Wake (ranked about 35-60).
If UF is OOS it’s a match. If UNC is in-state it’s probably also a match.
UF is in state for me. I will also be applying to FSU and UCF in state as well, but I did not include them as I assumed that I already had a strong chance of getting in.
Between Davidson and Wake, which one do you think is slightly better chance? Also, which one do you think is a better academic school, particularly in economics?
As for adding a couple of true matches (35-60), do you think Tulane University would be a match? P.S I’m only applying in the southern/southeastern region.
With FSU and UCF you have two quality safeties – assuming they are affordable, something that is important for all schools obviously.
I think Davidson and Wake are pretty comparable academically. In terms of Econ, check out the department web sites – look at the faculty, courses offered, grad requirements, etc.
Tulane is a case of a school ranked below its selectivity, similar to Tufts in that respect. It would probably be a high match for you and they consider interest, so make sure you show the love if you apply there.
A few more match-range schools in the SE (including D.C.) include the U of Miami, U of Richmond, Sewanee, Rhodes, GWU. And SMU, if you include Texas.
Duke, Vandy and Rice are additional reach options. To improve your chances you’d want to improve that SAT.
I forgot to mention Emory.
There’s Emory College and Oxford College. Emory College is probably a low reach. Oxford College is probably a high match. Whether you start out at Emory or Oxford, you end up with an Emory degree.
