Hi I am from Pennsylvania and extremely interested in uf but not sure if I will get in. IM A JUNIOR
unweighted gpa: 3.8
UF gpa: 3.78
weighted gpa: ?
EC: Spanish Club, SAD club, ski club, interactive club, SAFE club, dance team, cheer leading, getting job soon, applying for class president this year

AP classes: Psychology
I am planning on taking AP BIO, AP stat, AP Econ, and having over 100 community service hours.
Also attending georgetowns summer program and university of north Carolina's medical summer program.

It’s hard to tell if you will get in without you taking the SAT or ACT yet. But your unweighted GPA and extracurriculars are fine.

Need to post test scores, but your grades look good. FYI, on the UF accepted student’s thread, someone has posted about. Valedictorian getting into Princeton and someone else getting into Duke but rejected at UF. I don’t know the specifics.

Hello! I just got accepted into UF yesterday, so I’ll try to help you out!

Your GPA looks fair, but I would definitely try to find out what you’re weighted GPA is and take the tests soon. Your ECs look good, but next year definitely try to obtain some leadership positions! Also, definitely take as many AP classes as you can.

From reading the UF C/O 17 threads, I couldn’t tell you the “secret” to getting into UF. I know a few people who were in the IB program, with 30-32 on the ACT and upper 2000s on the SAT who got rejected. It’s crazy. This year it seems that GPA mattered much more than test score, but I could be wrong.

My stats:

ACT: 25
SAT: 1710
GPA unweighted: 3.97 (out of 4.0)
weighted: 4.7 (out of 4.8)
ECS: 4 year varsity softball player, team captain. 4 year HOSA member, President. Also President of the region for this club (all surrounding schools in the county). Member of 3 other clubs. 100+ CS by volunteering at the local hospital, humane society, and health clinics. ETC
Employment: Peachwave Frozen Yogurt for 2 years
AP classes: AP bio, AP psych, AP Stat, AP Lit, AP Lang, AP Gov, AP Econ, AP US
2 dual enrollment classes
Major: Biomedical Sciences
Essay: I have to say my essay was probably the reason why I got in.

I didn’t have superb test scores, so my extracurriculars, leadership positions and GPA definitely saved me. I’m surprised I got in when other people who should have gotten in but didn’t. I wish you luck next year!

@Gatorgirl: my basic stats were almost identical to yours. 1710 SAT, 25 ACT, 3.8 unweighted, though my UF GPA is weaker - 3.9 (higher after Sr year with APs and my school did send mid year transcripts).

My ECs were strong but fairly singularly focused in a sport - 4 yrs varsity, 3 (hopefully 4!) years all-county, non-school club level participation - app 20 hrs wk plus many weekends, etc, but Im not an athletic recruit. Part time job, 100+ community service hrs all working directly with those in need. I think my essay was very good and I spent a lot of time on my application trying to make sure it was perfect. I am dyslexic (well/professionally documented from early on) and did request my application be looked at with that in consideration as I believe it impacts my test scores.

I think one thing that may help applicants is showing continuity - the ability to stick with something over time. Your ECs show 4 years doing certain activities, mine do too. My grades were also very much the same from freshman year on (all As except B in English). I go to a school that offers limited honors and AP courses.

The UF admissions process seems very unpredictable, but maybe one thing they value (if grades and basic stats are acceptable) is a proven ability to maintain focus (with grades, EC interests, etc) over many years.

Who knows… Just an opinion.

Fall admission profile according to Gainesvillesun.com paper I believe that is Fall of 2013.

Mid 50% GPA: 4.1-4.5
Average GPA: 4.3
Mid 50% SAT: 1840-2100
Average SAT: 1967
Mid 50% ACT: 28-32
Average ACT: 30

My son applied for Summer 2013, he did not get accepted. His weighted GPA is 3.9, not sure on the UF calculation of it. He got a 28 composite on ACT.

Hi I was just admitted!
Gpa weighted 4.7 unweighted 3.6
Sat 1810
Act 26
28 academic courses throughout high school including 10 AP and 3 duel enrollment. Plus numerous EC and CS hours

I think if you do well this semester, your GPA will be fine. Mine was a 3.9 weighted and I got in. Can’t really say since you haven’t tested, but if you can score in the 28-30 range (or higher) on the ACT or 1900 or higher on the SAT, I think that would better your chances dramatically.

Also, leadership positions in one or a couple clubs help more than being in half a dozen. I had a leadership in one, was in two others, and then was also a retreat leader for my youth group (as well as for many youth events around my region). Applying for class president is an awesome idea on your part. :)

Lastly, my suggestion on writing the essay is writing it about something that isn’t on your application (or implied from it). Show them what makes you so unique! If you spend the time on it, I think it will pay off.

Thank you everyone for being so helpful! its greatly appreciated!!!
