Other/Reccomendations

I am white, from a middle class family.

I went to regular public school in Maryland (In one of the best Counties in the US)

I did about 120 hours of public service.

I know my teacher recommendations are going to be very good. One of them is from my AP Programming teacher (she went to UMD if that matters) and I know it is going to be amazing. I have talked to her about how I messed up in 10th Grade and she said she would make it really good. The other is from my AP World teacher and I was the top student in his class and he thinks very highly of me so it should also be good.

My counselor recommendation is also going to be pretty good because she has helped me out a lot and she knows how eager I am to get into UMD.

In my essays I explained my situation and talked about how much I have changed. I had it checked with multiple people. They are very good in my opinion.

These are the Universities I want to know my chances for. My goal right now is UMD but I would be happy to to any of these. Please give the realistic answer because I want to know the truth of my chances. Any advice you might have would be great and thanks.

Universities

University of Maryland College Park (In-State)

Georgia Institute of Technology

University of Michigan--Ann Arbor

University of California--San Diego

University of Pennsylvania

bumpppppppppppppppppppppppppp

I think you have a good chance at those schools because you have a great GPA and have obviously worked hard to make up for your Sophmore year. Especially at Georgia Tech. Have you considered Virginia Tech, NC State or Penn State?

bumppppppppp

You probably have a good chance for all of those. i would say UPenn is a reach but the others look good. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1601533-chance-me-my-schools.html</a></p>

This might sound stupid, but I have no idea what bump means?

During the interview, you could possibly explain what happened sophomore year and how you learned from it. It’ll show that you worked hard the other two years and did even better than before. My older brother went to UMD practically bombed freshman year bc he too made some stupid decisions but ended up with stellar grades the last three years and was salutatorian. I believe you have a pretty good chance tbh

By posting ‘bump’, it bumps the thread to the top of the list. OP, you’re in at MD. Penn is a reach. UMich is a low reach. Can’t comment on SD or GIT. Good luck.

thanks sschickens!

@jotiko3 UMD and UMichigan are matches, Penn is a reach. Idk about the others.

Chance me back http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?p=16844161</a></p>

@lbad96 The thing that really bothers me is the average GPA of student accepted to these schools is around a 3.7. My GPA obviously does not reflect my academic abilities but I am still nervous that they might not even consider me because of my low overall HS GPA compared to other kids applying.

@jotiko3 I feel you. Look at my own chance thread, GPA is sorta my worry as well.
