I am white and from Indiana.
The kids in my school in the past who applied and got accepted had lower and higher GPAs but slightly higher ACT scores, similar SAT scores.

Your info on former students applying to UMich seems to be in line with what I would expect. Your GPA is right around the admission average of 3.85 while your ACT is at the 25th percentile (SAT is slightly below 25%). So you do want to bring up your test scores for a better chance. I am not sure which year your alumnus applied to UMich, but the admission stat has been going up in the last few years while the admission rate keep going down. Whatever that was sufficient for admission 2-3 years ago, it may not be anymore. As an OOS student, UMich would be a low reach to reach for you right now.
