Ok I am a female junior at a prestigious private liberal arts high school. Michigan is my first choice, but I'm really nervous I won't get in...advice?

28 comp. ACT (I'm taking it again, I should hear about my 2nd score any day)
-32 English, 24 Math, 30 Reading, 27 Science, 9 Writing
1840/2400 SAT (not too great but I dont think I'll send it if I do well enough on the ACT)
-580 CR, 570 Math, 690 Writing

Is it bad to not send in the SAT? I talked to a rep from UMich admissions and she said there is no preference...I think it would only hurt my chances

Thanks!

You'll be fine for UMich, especially if you're in-state. If not, I can't imagine that your SATs will hurt given your much better ACTs.

I'm from the Chicago area. I can't get a clear answer from anyone as to whether or not it's harder to be out of state...some people say they like out of state, some people say it's harder to get in unless you have unbelievable stats. Also, I haven't heard of any requirements they have about accepting a certain percentage of in state students like some schools do.

It really depends on how competitive UMich turned out to be this year...and what the class of 2012's stats are. I'd say just get that ACT math score up 3 or 4 points, and you're in good shape. If you can get a composite ACT of 29 or 30, you'd be in great shape. Your GPA is good, and mich will know you go to a hard priv. school. just apply early.

you have excellent stats curt..i would improve the ACT Math (take it in June- it's the easiest one)...and if i were you i wouldn't send the SAT scores just becuz most schools are fine with just one..i would take a couple subject tests and improve your math score on the ACT..you can totally get a 28 on it. and you will be set for U Mich.

yeah i took the feb one as a base then i took the last one to get my math up so im crossing my fingers!! but if the june one is the easiest then maybe ill sign up just in case...

just take it as many times as you need to to get the strongest composite. i don't think michigan superscores, but there may be a big difference b/w your junior and senior year scores. i suggest doing june and september. and then you can submit your app early sep, and follow up with more ACT scores (if better).

good luck!

Idk. You would have to unweigh your gpa, schools do it differently so colleges always unweight it.
This is the average for UMich
Unweighted high school GPA of 3.7–4.0
28% with a 4.0 GPA
53% with 3.9 or higher GPA

For the ACT suprisingly its pretty low, 26-31. But thats just the average.

Thats of the accepted students, unweighed.

30 comp
35 englsih
32 reading
26 math and science

this is MUCH better than my feb scores....will this help my chances??

Dont bump. you have a really good chance of getting in. Probably be suprising if you didnt.
