I know I don’t have as many extracurriculars as they are probably looking for, but I feel like I have a strong essay and strong academics??? I toured UNC this past summer and adored it and it is my absolute dream school. I am also applying to Duke, UT-Austin, Baylor, and OU. Any input would be greatly appreciated

My advice is to pay close attention to the essays and watch the UNC YouTube videos. You need to show why you are a good fit for the school - keep in mind that OOS is tough. Good luck!

Generally, the chances for any OOS applicant to UNC-CH are somewhat problematic due to the highly competitive nature of OOS applications there: UNC-CH admits OOS applicants in numbers that are calculated not to exceed 18% of an entering freshman class. See “Undergraduate Admissions” on Page 2, here: http://www.admissions.unc.edu/files/2013/09/Admissions__Policy.pdf. As a further example of the difficulty for OOS students to be admitted to UNC-CH, the entering Class of 2020 had a 15% acceptance rate for OOS applicants: http://admissions.unc.edu/apply/class-profile-2/.

Your test scores and GPA should make you competitive for admission as an OOS applicant; but as @twogirls notes, good essays will be very helpful, as will good letters of recommendation. Because UNC-CH has an October 15 deadline for EA applications, focus on the essays and LORs, which are still within your control at this point.
