Chances for UNC, UVA (nursing), Vandy, and UT Austin

I would really appreciate any chances! I am applying to UNC, UVA (nursing), Vanderbilt, and UT Austin. Here are my stats:

-95.2 GPA from probably the top private school in the south
-740 critical reading, 720 math, 740 writing (1460 and 2200)
-6 total APs (above average for my school)
- I have a 221 on my PSAT and will definitely be made a National Merit Semifinalist and hopefully a finalist as well
-I want to be a nurse and I have a lot of experience with shadowing, attending a medical camp, and working in a clinic
-very strong service record. Over 400 hours of volunteering since the start of high school, and I led a major project that involved over 60 other volunteers (we built a children's library at a local transitional housing center)
-I have won several large awards for my service work
-I am also a football and boy's lacrosse athletic student trainer at my school
- I am treasurer of Young Republicans at my school and I hopefully will be president of the organization I do all my volunteer work through next year

Thanks for reading!

I think you have a very good shot at these schools…although for 3 of the 4, being in-state or out-of-state may affect your chances, and you did not specify exactly where you’re from. (It’s often easier for in-staters to be accepted at public universities such as UNC, UVA, and Texas.) The GPA (if it’s weighted) is a little low, but everything else looks awesome. Your service is very impressive. I’m also gonna be a nurse :)

You should consider applying to Boston College too, unless you want to stay in the South of course. I think you could definitely get into BC with all of your service! Best of luck to you!

I am out of state for all of these schools. And my GPA is weighted but from my school that GPA is considered very high simply because of the rigor of even our regular classes.

Well if you are able to provide a rank that would show colleges that your GPA is on par. Even a counselor recommendation will do it…they have to say how rigorous your courses are and so on.

we do not rank at my school, but my college counselor has told me he will be marking my entire curriculum as “most rigorous” !

…bump!

For the state schools, it will be much easier if you live in that state. Your ECs look good, but I am noticing a lack of leadership. Other than that, get good recommendations and write a good essay. I think you have a good shot at all of them. Good luck.

UNC: match/low reach, given you’re out of state (hate that)
UVA: match, not sure how different the nursing program standards are for admission though
UTAustin: i know nothing about it
Vandy: low reach, sort of a crapshoot for the people at my school at least

chance me back! (: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/956846-chance-rising-senior-unc-uva.html

UT might be a reach unless you are a Texas resident in the top 10% of your class. I believe there is a bill that requires that 75% of the admissions are instate students in the top 10% regardless of test scores.

In regards to leadership:
-I am a head athletic student trainer
-I am a leader for a Jr. High Christian club
-I have served as secretary, treasurer, and will be president next year of the organization I volunteer through

 • I am treasurer of my school’s young republicans club
 • Most importantly, I was the leader of a project that involved over 100 volunteers to build a small library at a transitional housing center for women and children
