Chances for University of Colorado Boulder?

Hi! I just got home from touring Boulder last weekend. I fell in love with the school, and I do not want to go go anywhere else. I applied the first day the application opened in August, so I should hear back on November 15th. I am dying for that day to come, as I am freaking myself out wondering if I will get in or not.

GPA- 3.426
SAT CR- 600
SAT Math- 590
SAT Writing- 600
SAT Total- 1790
ACT Composite 1- 27
ACT Composite 2- 27
ACT Power score- 28

I come from a top high school in the Northern Virginia area (suburbs of Washington, DC) and it is ranked in the top 100 schools in the nation. My extracurricular activities are better than the average applicant, as I have volunteered with Habitat for Humanity for four years, been on mission trips to Costa Rica with service and a spanish immersion program, volunteered in surgery at a local hospital, been on honor roll, and have worked with special olympics. I wrote an essay I am very proud about for diversity about my the two sides of my family being of different socio-economic status, with one being Italian, the other being German, and myself being gay. My other essay was about failing in life and what I learned, and I wrote about the first time I ever tried to snowboard and broke my wrist, and it turned into a real good essay.

With my grades (I know my GPA) do I have a reasonable chance of getting in? Boulder is absolutely amazing, and I'm coming from out of state with a family that makes plenty of money and can easily pay for it.

I've also applied to:

University of Utah
University of Arizona
University of Oregon
University of Washington Seattle
University of Wisconsin Madison

I’m from Colorado, and know a lot of kids who have gotten into Boulder with lower GPAs and test scores than you! I’m not sure how admissions compare for students from out-of-state, but I’d imagine you still have a good chance of getting in. They do holistic admissions so they’ll look favorably on your extracurriculars. What kind of classes did you take in high school- any honors/ AP/ IB?

If you’re set on going to school in Colorado, you could consider applying to some more “safety” schools. Fort Lewis College has kind of the same outdoorsy-energetic vibe as Boulder, but it is a smaller public liberal arts college and isn’t quite as academically well-known. The town of Durango is great though. Other options to look into might be Western State Colorado University, Colorado State University, or maybe CU Denver.

I hope you get into CU Boulder and have fun in Colorado if you do!

Thank you so much! I want a big state school however, and Boulder offers what I want. I took AP US History and AP English Lang & Comp junior year, and I am currently taking AP Biology, AP Calculus AB, and AP US Government & Politics.

you can deff get in. wouldn’t sweat it- fairly easy school to get into! :)
