Hello everyone, this will be my first post ever here.

My dream school is UM. I am currently a senior and I'm scared that I might not get into this college. I live in New Jersey. Here are my credentials:

GPA : 3.4 - Take all AP's and Honors courses
SAT Score (This is whats scaring me the most. I'm retaking them one week after this post):1480/2400
EC's :
Marching band all throughout high school (Freshman year through Junior Year)
Mixed Martial arts
Key club
Humanitarian Club (senior year)
Biology Club (Junior Year)
Forensics Team (Senior Year, Debate)
Volunteered at a hospital

Extra information: My gpa was low during my freshman and sophomore year due to the fact that I had to take care of my ill mother. She died right before my junior year from cancer. My junior year, I received a 3.7 GPA and my first MP in senior year is looking like a 4.0+. My GPA might rise to 3.46 by the end of the first quarter.

I would like a honest opinion, would this school be possible for me to get into?

My apologies for double posting, but will applying early action help me out? I need opinions and honesty. What other college would you consider for me in Florida?

I would say that your SAT scores are way too low.

Especially for a kid taking all APs and honors.

You didn’t say why exactly you want to go to the University of Miami.

If you state your reasons, perhaps people can recommend some similar schools that are a bit easier to get into.

Hopefully, your SAT scores will go up.

Further, UM has gone up in the rankings from about #52 to #38 over the past three years, so it would seem that this school is moving away from you.

UM is a college full of variety and good academics. It just seems right for me. The colleges around me don’t seem as “good” as UM. I like the diversity, weather, and campus.

As far as SAT’s goes, I’m not going to give excuses. My room wasn’t exactly the best and there were many distractions.
I have been studying nearly everyday for this SAT. I plan on doing much better next week.

Too low no offense and just a lil pet peeve. You said in the last post you weren’t going to give excuses and then the next sentence you go on to say the room wasn’t good and there were distractions…

ivyleague324, you aren’t very nice are you? Thanks for calling me a pet peeve, ignorant jackass.

My low score is on me and no one else, if you don’t have anything to contribute such as a advice or answering any of my questions then don’t bother replying here.

To quote you, you asked “I would like a honest opinion, would this school be possible for me to get into?”

And I answered your question respectfully saying your SAT’s were too low, im not going to lie to you. And you can check your post again but what i said about the excuses is coming from your own post. I just thought it was kind of funny.

ivyleague is doing what you asked. I agree your SATs are wayyy too low… You’re going to need to manage at least an 1800 to have a decent chance lol excuses are exactly what you gave. Maybe that’s why your SAT score was so low…you’re not reading properly

Like mentioned previously, the scores are too low. Applying EA won’t really help either. I remember I got deferred EA from Miami, then after I sent in my horrendous 1st semester grades senior year (a 2.8 weighted), I got accepted. Shows how much they care about grades.

Thank you for your responses. newuser2011, really? Maybe they don’t look at senior grades. I just retook the SAT’s yesterday and I can confidently say I scored much better. We will see in 20 days.

Also sorry about the above comment. Thanks again for the replies.

Does Miami look at your essay/rec’s to the point that it can make a big difference? Just curious because a couple of my teachers have written great rec’s and I’m working on my essay.
