Chances for University of Michigan Early Action?

I am curious as to whether the early action decision would be beneficial for me since I'm applying to the COE at Michigan. Currently I am an IB Diploma Candidate and an upcoming senior (on summer break) at a great high school in Arizona. I understand that the university website says there are no benefits to applying early besides getting an earlier decision as to whether you are accepted, however of course there must be some exceptions. I have a relatively low GPA ( 3.65 UW) 4.6 W, so if apply later I could excel at my senior year courses (which are extremely rigorous ie AP Calc BC, IB Physics, etc) and show the university improvement in my GPA and dedication. Obviously there is a separation between principle and practice but what are your thoughts?

Your SAT score is above average although your GPA is low. However, that may be due to your course load. I have heard UMich has stopped recalculating GPA, so they may just use your weighed GPA which is good. Anyway, do try EA. If you do not get accepted during EA, it will be deferred and re-evaluate with RA or rolling. So you do still get a better chance. Just make sure you can afford it as oos student though. As your score is not good enough for significant merit aid particularly for CoE.

UMI: High match

Remember, UMich has a policy of GPA calculation that they call the “Michigan GPA” which only calculates math, science, language, history and english, excluding electives and others

^ UMich has stopped recalculating GPA since a few years ago. I am not sure if they have changed the policy again since they joined the CommonApp in the last couple years. They used to drop the subgrades and freshman grades, but now they just use the GPA on your transcript.
