So what are my chances? This is a target school.

URM?
Engineering?

We have a winner.

But seriously how is that weighted to unweighted GPA spread even mathematically possible?

They’ve probably taken all honors and AP courses in high school.

But how is that possible?

Gym
Health
etc

There are courses you have to take that aren’t in honors form

ok, those are the only two classes that were regular, but they did not have a huge impact on both my GPA (A’s in both). Those two courses aren’t weighted enough to vary both of my GPA’s

A 3.5/26 seems a bit a of reach. Depends on how much of hook is URM.

But a difference of 1.0 between weighted and unweighted GPA when honors and AP As are a 5.0 can only occur if everything you took was honors. Even a small change would show up on your GPA

idk, that just how our school does it. Our schools weighs APs as 6.0 so that might be part of it

Guys, Michigan no longer takes URM consideration into account during admissions, that was stopped quite a while ago. The university’s current policy is to give an advantage in admissions to disadvantaged schools, which the OP will clearly not receive.

That said, a 3.5 GPA, 26 on the ACT, and out-of-state status isn’t going to impress admissions. To add on to that, engineering is slightly more selective than the university as a whole, so that lowers your chances a bit more. Your extracurriculars might make up for some of that, but I’m not sure how much. Michigan is a slight reach.

@OP, Oh, if APs are a 6 then that makes more sense.

… I don’t believe Michigan doesn’t consider URM status. I walk around campus and I see multi cultural this and diversity that. I look in my engineering classes and see only white and asian guys. Colleges feel like they need an artificial amount of diversity for some reason and they’ll do what they need to get it.
