If you want background story, you can read on, but if you just want to answer and be done with it, feel free to just read the stats. I am currently a senior in high school. Time for deciding on my future years in education is coming down to the wire, and I admit, I've been a bit thrown for a loop emotionally and mentally. I live in a suburb of St. Paul, Minnesota, and if I've decided on anything, it's that I want to stay in state for the first year, at least. I'm your typical case of smart-but-lazy-student. I'm incredibly interested in math, physics, and astronomy, and I tend to excel in those classes because of it, but I slack on completing homework that I find unnecessary. I love learning, but once I've learned it, I lose interest in working on it, so test scores are high, but overall grades are low. I want to go to a somewhat prestigious (not as in Ivy league, but respectable nonetheless) university, simply for learning's sake. The University of Minnesota would offer good education, obscure classes, and amazing research and career opportunities.

My situation:
Desired College: University of Minnesota - Twin Cities|Institute of Technology (opposed to liberal arts, etc.)

GPA prior to senior year: 2.83
GPA after senior year: Will be much higher, especially weighted, but that won't be on the application, will it? Nope. :( If you have any ideas to solve this issue, please share!

ACT Composite: 31
Math: 35
English: 33
Reading: 30
Science: 27

Current Classes: AP Calculus AB, AP Physics, AP Statistics, AP Music Theory, Non-advanced History class, Non-advanced English class (desired advanced, but schedule didn't work)

ECs: Math Team for 3 years, otherwise, nothing on any extended basis.

UMTC doesn't take recommendations or essays with applications to my knowledge.

Ethnicity/Gender: White Female

Other stuff...: My mom attended both UMTC and UMD, as did my uncle. Both parents went to college. Brother is currently attending a Minnesota state college. Despite feeling money stress all the time, parents' incomes don't show any dire financial need. Parents are divorced and father lives in Washington state.

What I Don't Want: To attend community college for a year or two...if it comes down to it, hooray, but our closest community college...creeps me out. With my ACT score, I could get accepted to any basic state college, and that would probably be my backup route, that or a branch of the U, like UMD.

I'm expecting a lot of "no chance." responses, but I know I'm going to apply, and I suppose I need to be more sure whether or not there's hope. Haha, the longer I look at this page, the more hopeless it all seems :(. What I dread is standing at my mailbox reading a rejection letter when my hopes were high. So, please, give as much detail to your arguement as possible, and don't be hateful. Thank you!
