Chances for University of Richmond?

I am a senior and plan to apply early decision. I have a 3.44 GPA and a 29 ACT. I am in NHS have 100's of service hours, I am a 4 year varsity golf starter and team manager.

Hello hross! UR has a very holistic approach to admissions. Your GPA is in the lower 25% of class of 2015 stats. Your ACT is in the low range of the middle 50%. So, while these two numbers are not great, there are folks on campus that have similar numbers.

I think, while grades and scores are certainly very important, UR cares very much about your clas rank, strength of schedule and commitment to an EC. I don’t think a laundry list of 15 charities that you have given some time to will get you far. However if there is an activity that you have really been commited to, it will make a good impression.

Your essay, I think, is also your best opportunity to make a positive impression on the admissions folks. They will have a stack of dozens of average people in front of them. Your essay is your first job interview. It needs to show them that you are the type of person that they want on campus next year.

Your stats are low but that doesn’t mean you can’t sell yourself! There are others just like you on campus! It’s a great school. Godd luck and let us know how it goes!

Thank you so much PA Venturer! I do have a lot of EC’s. I am working hard on my essay too. If I don’t get in ED for the fall would it be possible to apply ED for the winter? I would have to be notified early enough to be able to enroll in another college incase I don’t get in.

You will know by, I believe, December 15th. My daughter applied ED and had a couple of other schools lined up to send apps to if she did not get accepted. The 12/15 notification will give you time to apply regular at any other school but you need to know who those other schools are ahead of time because you won’t have much time to react. I don’t think you can apply ED II if you are not accepted ED I. I’m not sure but I don’t think so.

I just applied ED last week! Did you end up applying? I think you have a good shot. College admissions are so unpredictable sometimes though.

I have a 2040 SAT 670 CR 680 M 690 W and a 3.95/4.0 W GPA at a rigorous high school.
I have many extracurriculars and 3 AP classes this year. From PA.

I’m just curious if it gets more competitive if multiple people are applying from the same school. This could hurt me because many people apply each year from my school! Hopefully it won’t affect my chances.

Counting down the days until December 15th! Nervous but excited…

Hello Surfergirl! We don’t have a lot of surfing here in PA! At least, along the mighty Susquehanna! I would guess that volume from one particular school might be a factor but I don’t know that. I think your stats combined with a great essay would give you pretty decent odds of acceptance. Applying ED helps too, I think. My daughter was an ED admit two years ago (time sure flies) and is loving life at UR.

Good luck! Let us know how you do.

I did apply ED! I can’t wait until December 15th. It’s also my birthday! I’m the only one to go ED from my school not many people come from my state (Colorado.) But you seem like a great applicant no matter what. Good luck! Hope to see you next year!

Hoping we get good news! Good luck to you too. Let me know how it turns out!
