What’s your intended major? Having a cousin attending won’t make any difference to admissions-- sorry to say. Not sure having a parent graduate there would give you much of a bump either. You should be in pretty good shape, as it stands right now but another point increase on your ACT wouldn’t hurt.

I am not understimating anything PDM, Michigan is no longer a safety for IS students, regardless of how good they are. I am not saying that it is a reach, but gone are the days when Michigan could be considered a safety for IS applicants. When you say that the OP will be “fine”, you are basically saying that is a 90% or 100% chance he will be accepted. Even IS applicants with 4.0 GPAs and near perfect standardized test scores don’t have those sort of odds. I am estimating 48,000 applications this year (15,000 IS, 25,000 OOS and 8,000 international). Of those, they will likely accept 15,000 (6,500 IS, 7,500 OOS and 1,000 international). Those are just estimates based on last year’s numbers, but I expect them to materialize.

I am currently studying as a freshman at the U-M, and I have to agree with what Alexandre has been saying. It is becoming increasingly difficult to be accepted to the U-M. My recommendation would be to take more AP Classes; U-M likes that you busted your ass in high school and STILL had the high grades. Your ACT is fine: don’t worry about getting it higher, but it couldn’t hurt. I think overall you have a pretty good shot at getting in, depending of course on how your classes in HS are weighted and your subsequent GPA.

If I hadn’t been reading Alexandre’s posts for the past couple of years I would have thought he was a ■■■■■. The only thing that will keep this kid out is if he or she bombs the junior year classes, writes in his or her essay how he or she wants to be a Buckeye or has a nasty teacher recommendation.

I wouldn’t waste time taking the ACT or SAT again. A higher score wouldn’t make a difference. The test is required in March as part of the Michigan testing. That would be more than enough.

thanks guys. classes at the school i go to (PCEP - the only 3-school highschool campus in the nation i believe) are pretty tough, but yeah i will keep up my work. maybe i won’t aim for a 34 on the act but since UofM is 29-33, i’ll probably at least try to get 33. but again thanks everyone!
