Hi I am a junior in HS in Albuquerque New Mexico. I am a legacy for Duke and UPenn. I was wondering whether my chances of getting in were higher applying ED for Duke or UPenn
My UW GPA is 3.8
My W GPA is 4.2
I am National Merit Semifinalist: 1520 on PSAT
1510 on SAT
34 on ACT
AP Chem, 3, AP World, 5, AP Calc AB, 5
This year I am taking AP Spanish Language, AP Calc BC, AP Bio, AP US Government
Next year I am taking: Enhanced Multivariable Calculus, AP Econ, AP Phys C
ECs: Chess Team Captain, Varsity Soccer 2 years, Mock Trial Team Captain, won state mock trial two years in a row and got 4th in Nationals last year, Sung in the Santa Fe Opera (got paid) Made Allstate singing past two years, Major volunteer with the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (I have met with my State Senators and Representatives multiple times; I went to advocate on Capital Hill infront of the United States Congress)
I would be applying as a business major, so Wharton Undergrad. Thank you!
ED is binding, meaning you have to go there if you’re admitted. I would suggest really looking into both schools, maybe even visiting both, before you make a decision to ED. Legacy will help you, but it won’t singlehandedly get you into either school. Without taking into account which school you like better, I would say ED Wharton. It has the #1 business program in the country.
I’m not sure how much either of those schools takes legacy in to account. Regardless, I’d guess its pretty similar for both of them. I’d say you have a little bit better of a chance at getting in to duke. However, Wharton is, pretty unequivocally, the best business school. But then again, your undergrad business school may matter less than a graduate level business school. Also, I agree with the above poster that you should DEFINITELY visit both campuses to see which you feel more comfortable at.
So, You’ve probably got a marginally higher chance at duke than at wharton undergrad. Maybe your grades will change as you keep taking classes, you wgpa will probably go up with APs, etc. Good luck, but make sure your decision is fully informed.
Chance wise I would say ED Duke b/c it’s business school is not as selective as UPenn’s. Like wormholes said ED is binding so I suggest you try for UPenn as it has a better business program.
